Nowadays, distributed system is widely used in the field of industrial control. There are four models of ET200M interface module IM153: IM153-1 standad, IM153-2 HF, IM153-4 PN and IM153-4 PN HF.

The IM 153-1 Standard (standard) has a 9-pin SUB-D interface for Profibus-DP bus connection and supports a maximum transmission rate of 12 Mb/s. IM 153-1 Standard supports up to 8 distributed signal modules (FM352-5, FM353-1, FM354-1 are not supported), and the output / output buffer size is 128byte respectively.

The IM 153-2 HF (high performance) also has a 9-pin SUB-D interface that supports Profibus-DP bus with a maximum transfer rate of 12 Mb/s. The IM 153-2 HF supports up to 12 distributed signal modules (all S7-300 signal modules can be used) with output / output buffers of 244 bytes respectively. The IM 153-2 HF also supports fail-safe systems (F-system) and redundant systems (Redudancy). Using the IM 153-2 HF to create a redundant system uses a dedicated backplane module (BM), as shown in the following figure:

The IM 153-4 PN and IM 153-4 PN HF (high performance) modules connect the ET200M distributed module to the Profinet network (the PN in the name stands for Profinet) and support full-duplex, 10pm 100m network, with automatic transmission rate negotiation; the maximum number of S7-300signal modules supported is 12; the MMC card slot on the module can be inserted into the MMC card to save network configuration data, but normal operation will not be affected if the card is not plugged in. The high performance module (IM 153-4 PN HF) supports the Media redundancy Protocol (Media Redundancy Protocol, MRP), which can automatically choose another transmission path in the event of a failure.
