Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--

In this issue, the editor will bring you about the underlying structure principle of Storwize V7000 storage and the case study of storage data recovery. The article is rich in content and analyzes and describes for you from a professional point of view. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

The Storwize V7000 (also known as the V7000) is a new midrange storage system. Although the system is positioned in the middle, the Storwize V7000 provides storage management capabilities that were previously available only for high-end storage (such as the Storwize V3700).

Underlying storage structure support: RIAD 0/RAID 10/RAID5/RAID 6

Upper volume support: normal volume / reduced mode volume / mirrored mode volume / thin mirror mode volume

This article will show you the structure and principle of V7000 storage, the configuration method and the data recovery method of Mdisk disk offline.

[V7000 underlying structure and principle]

From a split point of view, the underlying principle structure of V7000 does not belong to a complex type, and the whole storage structure is divided into four layers.

The first layer is the physical hard disk, where the data is actually stored.

The second layer, Mdisk, which is the raid in storage, is a collection of multiple physical disks.

The third layer is called the pool, which combines many Mdisk into a larger logical container.

The fourth layer is the volume, which is a user-oriented storage unit, which is the space allocated from the pool. (note: volumes cannot cross pools). The four-tier structure can be seen more clearly through the graphics:

At this point, you should be able to understand that only the physical disk of the first layer is the final location for storing data. The second, third and fourth layers are all virtualized. The data in the physical disk is stored in small blocks (Block), that is, we usually understand that the data stored in Mdisk will be divided into N multiple Block evenly distributed on all disks. In the Mdisk tier, data is stored in segments, and multiple Mdisk form a pool. Volumes created in the pool are divided into several segments and placed in different Mdisk, and different volume types are distributed in different ways in the pool, but eventually they are stored in Midsk in segments.

The stored procedure of V7000 is that the user stores the data in the volume, which is divided into several segments and distributed in different Mdisk, while the Mdisk divides the segments into several blocks and distributes them on different disks. The final data is all distributed on different disks in blocks.

[how to configure Storwize V7000]

1. Connect to V7000 using the administrative IP and enter the user name (default: superuser) and password (password: passw0rd).

2. There is no configuration by default. Mdisk, pool and volume need to be configured first, and then the host mapping volume is added.

3. The types of creating Mdisk,Mdisk are RAID0,RAID0,RAID5 and RAID6.

4. Create a pool, which can divide multiple Mdisk into one pool.

5. Create a volume. The volume is configured on the basis of the pool. The types of volumes are generic, automatic thinning, mirroring and thin mirroring.

6. Create hosts and map volumes. The types of hosts are fibre Channel hosts and iscsi hosts.

At this point, the general process of the whole configuration is over.

[Mdisk disk offline data recovery case]

1. Storage architecture

Storage model: Storwize V7000

Number of disks: 24 (600g SAS disks)

Number of Mdisk: 2 Mdisk, (RAID 5)

Number of volumes: 2 x 2T general mode, 1 x 3T compact mode.

2. Cause of failure

Due to the natural aging of the disk, part of the Mdisk disk went offline and the upper volume could not be accessed. Because only one global hot backup is set and the manager does not change it in time after the disk is dropped, the data is lost.

3. Data recovery method

First of all, all the disks should be mirrored, and then by analyzing the images, we can find out which disks are the same set of Mdisk.

Then analyze a group of Mdisk whether the disk is dropped or not. If there is a disk drop, remove the offline disk directly in the Mdisk group, generate Mdisk, and then analyze the structure generation pool between Mdisk. Then analyze the structure of the volume, because different volumes also have different types, so the storage structure is also different.

After analyzing the structure of the volume, you can generate data for each volume.

Due to the thorough study of the underlying structure of IBM V7000 series storage, almost all the failures of this series of storage can be saved. However, there is a situation where the data is irreparable and all disks are rebuilt. Because after the creation of the Mdisk, the system will initialize the Mdisk, that is, zero. Therefore, if the storage is rebuilt and initialized, the data can hardly be recovered in this case.

The above is the Storwize V7000 storage underlying structure principle and storage data recovery case analysis shared by the editor.
