Most Oppo phones may be known for their beautiful appearance, but many of them are also quite powerful-now we hear that one of the brand's upcoming devices may be equipped with the rumored next-generation processor.

According to the whistleblower's digital chat site, he claimed on Chinese social networking site Weibo that Oppo is experimenting with a new chipset that could eventually be called Snapdragon 870 and plans to use it in future smartphones.

Snapdragon 870 is expected to be a "simplified version" of 875 and is likely to be the next high-end processor we will see in many high-end phones in early 2021.

The Snapdragon 875 has not yet been officially released-expected at the Qualcomm event in December-but it will almost certainly bring faster lighting processing speed to smartphones.

If Oppo does have plans to put Snapdragon 870 on the phone, it could be the Oppo Find X3 (the next version of the flagship product expected to be released in February) or Oppo Reno 5 (the fifth generation of the mid-range series), which is expected to be released in March.

The latter is more likely because Oppo may want to use the absolutely best chipsets in the most advanced product line, but the "thinness" of the 870s remains to be seen, and Oppo may think it is more suitable for the 875s than top phones.

Similarly, each of these lines is expected to contain two or three phones, so we can only see one or two devices in each range of the chipset.

Is a high-end chipset necessary?

If the Oppo Find X3 eventually owns the Snapdragon 870 chipset, it will be another example of manufacturers choosing to install mid-end processors in other high-end phones after Google Pixel 5.

There may be several reasons for this: it will reduce the cost of mobile phones and may take up less internal space, but the main reason may be that not many consumers actually need the maximum processing power. Most of the best mobile games are optimized to work well on medium-sized chipsets, and few people edit videos or large files on smartphones.

So maybe the Oppo Find X3 will eventually become a more affordable product than the Find X2, because the Find X2 Pro is one of the most expensive phones this year.

As mentioned earlier, we expect the Oppo Find X3 and Reno 5 series to be launched in the first few months of 2021-although we expect the first products to be on display at MWC 2021, usually in February, which will be postponed to June, which may delay the launch of "Find" to a later date.
