When Steve Jobs launched the first generation of iPhone in January 2007, he made a bold assertion that the new product was five years ahead. He's wrong. IPhone phones have been around for nine years, and in the meantime, we haven't found a better product than the iPhone.

However, Apple's iPhone lead has been gradually challenged. In fact, this advantage has become smaller and smaller. According to Business Insider, Samsung's latest Galaxy Note 7 is better than iPhone in a number of key aspects: better design and better features, such as water resistance and wireless charging technology. In addition, the phone provides users with storage space they can never use up.

In contrast to iPhone, the phone has maintained the same design over the past two years. And most reports now suggest that the design of iPhone 7 may not change much this year. What about wireless charging and waterproof? Apple has ignored these features. Apart from faster processors and better cameras, we really can't think of any other features or configurations of the new iPhone that we should look forward to.

Samsung has surpassed Apple's iPhone in design and functionality with the Galaxy Note 7, and Apple may still be preparing to launch a phone similar to that of two years ago.

Why does Apple still have a slight advantage? The reason is that Samsung or other manufacturers have yet to replicate Apple's unique weapon: the iOS system.

Despite Google's best efforts, the Android ecosystem is still stuck with the fate of fragmentation. It is difficult for users to get continuous updates on their Android phones. Developers are also willing to release the Android version after the launch of the iOS app. The Samsung version of Android (called TouchWiz) is actually stuck in Android UI, rather than improving it.

IOS is the only smartphone system that can guarantee continuous software support for users for several years. Android users are lucky if you buy a new phone and get a system update a year later.

Safety is another issue. If you find a loophole in your phone, Apple will quickly introduce software updates to the entire iOS ecosystem to fix the vulnerability and minimize damage. In Android, this is not the case.

This year has been awkward for Apple. IOS has become the only magic weapon for iPhone's leading competitors, while other competitors are besieging iPhone from other aspects, including design, hardware features and configuration. Samsung is a typical example. But if Samsung finds a good way to solve its software problems, will the advantages of Apple's iPhone still exist?
