There are three things that should be considered in database design:

The hardware environment is the foundation. The database dual system must adapt to the computer hardware environment, according to its data storage equipment, network and communication equipment, computer performance and other hardware conditions related to the scale of the database, data storage mode, distribution structure and data communication mode.

Database management system and database application development software and software environment. Before the database system is involved, the appropriate database application development software of the database management system should be selected to meet the requirements of the database system. We should understand the characteristics of the database application system development software of the selected database management system, make use of its advantages of data operation and data control, adapt to the special requirements and limitations, and make the two cooperate well.

The technical and management level of the users of the database is the key. In order to improve the level of database users and database administrators in applying and managing the database system, they should be fully involved in the work involving the database and have a better understanding of every detail of the database design process.

Structural characteristics involve a close combination with behavioral characteristics.
