Goal:

Windows server 2008 R2 system standard version does not support data re-deletion, and wsus wants to enable dedup, although the Internet says that there is only about 17% weight removal rate, but if the space in 240GB weight removal rate of 17% still save a lot of space. Inplace upgrade from wsus 3.0 sp2 to wsus 6 is not supported, the official step is to install another wsus server, then migrate the database, group, and WSUS downloaded files, change the Identifier of wsus, and then change the client WSUS Server point. Because there were other services in the previous WSUS, such as Volume active services. Update points of SCCM and so on. Still tend to upgrade on the original system and keep the host name unchanged. The previous system was window server 2008 R2 ent, which required an upgrade from inplace to windows server 2012 R2 std (but this upgrade is not officially supported)

Problems that need to be solved:

The version of Windows server 2008 ent is changed to the std version, and then upgrading to windows server 2012 R2 std requires uninstalling wsus 3.0 sp2 first, waiting for the first step to complete, enabling the installation of wsus on windows server 2012 R2, and importing the previous update files and database Wsus databases on a dedicated SQL Server without backup and migration.

Steps:

Snapshot the entire virtual machine uninstalls wsus 3.0 sp2 and retains databases and files. Wsus-related shares, WSUS-related groups, etc., are deleted. Change the registry (dark magic, downgrade Ent to Std version, actually not downgrade, if you look at winver, it still shows Enterprise, but we will fool the windows upgrade program)

Using the windows server 2012 R2 installation disk, upgrade OS in place (selecting the standard gui version and choosing to upgrade the existing system will prompt some incompatible warnings, most of which can be ignored)

Change to standard version after upgrade

To install the wsus role, note that the Content is placed in the original location, and the database settings point to the remote SQL server

Delete the default site in IIS, and then change the ID managed by wsus to 1 (if not, the following error will be reported)

In the advanced settings section of the website

Change the WSUS default port snooping to 80 and 443

Execute postinstall tasks on the command line
