Very often, when we recommend SharePoint Farm to our customers as the enterprise data management business platform, we usually recommend that the configuration customers consider the stability, scalability, security and so on of the platform. In order to meet the SLA standards for enterprise users to access the platform, we will advise customers to consider configuring high availability for SQL when configuring SharePoint Farm, so that when one SQL node goes down, another SQL node will be switched. To ensure that end users can access the platform data normally.

Recently, when I was studying the deployment of SharePoint Server 2019 + SQL Server Always On Group, I encountered a problem and a solution. I hope it will be helpful to your future deployment.

Problem description: after configuring Windows Server Failover Clustering, the following exception occurs when the second Cluster node installs SQL Server, prompting: SQL Server Setup has encounter the following error:Failed to retrieve for this request.

Installation environment: SQL Server Server 2017, Server, 2019, SharePoint Server 2019.

After troubleshooting, it is found that the resource file obtained by the installation SQL Server conflicts with Windows Server, resulting in the failure to obtain the installation file. Solution:

Installation of SQL Server needs to be carried out before configuring Windows Server Failover Clustering. If you follow the steps officially recommended by Microsoft: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/administration/configure-an-alwayson-availability-group, create Windows Server Failover Cluster first, and then install SQL Server on each SQL Server node, you should pay attention to make sure that each Windows Server Cluster Service is stopped before installing SQL Server.

Here we recommend and install the steps of deployment and configuration: create Windows Server failover cluster. Stop the Windows Server Failover Cluster service to install SQL Server on each Cluster node to start the Windows Server Failover Cluster service to create and configure an availability group. Install and configure SharePoint Server 2019 to add the SharePoint database to availability group. Verify failover
