Ideally, every new computer with Windows 10 (or every new installation of Windows 10) would be free of annoying apps and other obsolete software that is hardly needed. It will also have no annoying ads. That's not to say Microsoft has dropped a big banner of Coke or something in your OS, but it's frustrating to see its Edge browser unpopular in the Start menu.

At least, that's what some people are noticing now more than ever. For example, if you're a Firefox user, you might already see this little note in the Windows 10 Start menu:

This is not a new Microsoft habit. Well, specific ads are, yes, but Microsoft has been putting that pesky "suggestion" on the company's Start menu for a while now, and the company calls it "suggestion." However, it is not difficult to permanently ban these advertisements.

To disable these silly suggestions, pull up the windows 10 settings menu. Here, click Personalize, and then click the Start option in the sidebar on the left. Find and disable the following option: "Show suggestions occasionally in Start"

If you want to linger, you can also use an open source application like Open-Shell to further adjust the look and style of the Start menu (presumably also to prevent any annoying ads from appearing).

In the Settings app, tap the Lock screen. If you haven't already used a picture or slide show as a background, select it and deselect the Get interesting facts, tips, and more from Windows and Cortana on lock screen option. In other words, you don't want to be bothered by suggestions or advertisements.

Finally, go back to the Settings home screen and click System. Here, click on "Notifications and Actions" in the sidebar on the left. Because Windows can sometimes become somewhat spam and/or advertise Microsoft products to you through notifications, you'll want to uncheck Get tips, tricks, and advice when using Windows to eliminate digital life.

It's annoying that you have to, but now, when you see the new version of Windows 10, turning off Microsoft's ads should be the first thing you do. I'm not sure why Microsoft can't default to these options to begin with because people pay for the OS that appears with these "suggestions," but it's a quick fix, thanks a lot.
