However, in many cases, users can only rely on third-party ROM or app to implement. The good news is that starting with Android 8.0 Oreo, it may not be so troublesome. According to XDA, Google provides enough interfaces for the Substratum theme engine in the new system without having to root the device.

Of course, there are some things to say first. Even though you can fine-tune many parts of Android UI, in many cases, it only applies to limited parts of the interface. Take the night mode theme as an example, only setting app and other fixed UI can be applied.
