The cross-licensing patent deal between software giant Microsoft and imaging giant Canon has affected "a wide range of products and services offered by companies, including some digital imaging and mobile consumer goods."

Although we have detailed information about specific equipment and services, we do not have specific information about the only patent, so this transaction is an interesting prospect.

Microsoft can use Canon's patents and software knowledge to improve pure technology. It can be bought from Nokia, or Canon can launch smart cameras that run on Windows phones.

In that case, the deal ensures that neither company will have any patent disputes with the other. Or it could mean that the two platforms will interact with Windows devices (smartphones, PC and tablets) and Canon cameras.
