Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
The trend of All Flash/SSD storage is unstoppable, and it will be the same in NAS services in the future. At present, many startups support full-SSD NAS storage services, including EMC Isilion with all-flash nodes. The high IOPS capability in flash memory scenario corresponds to the OPS operation capability of NAS, such as random small file reading and writing, analysis and hotspot acceleration. In terms of NAS's support for database, such as GPFS NAS's support for PureScale and Oracle, if the storage medium uses SSD, then the database performance and processing power will be significantly improved.
Today we'll take a look at Purestorage's FlashBlade SSD NAS products, EMC Isilon All Flash, and the All Flash FAS A series of SSD NAS products based on traditional Data ONTAP.
First of all, let's review the FlashArray product. FlashArray / m hardware is an updated version of the previous generation of FA, compared with an improvement in capacity and performance. FlashArray / / M20 is an entry-level device that supports expansion from 5TB-40TB to 250TB available capacity in the 3U-5U box. The performance reaches 200000 (32K block) IOPS,//m50 box in 3U-5U supports 20TB and 176TB bare capacity, supports expansion to 500TB available capacity, 270000 IOPS.
MLC flash memory chip is used in the new array of FlashArray//m. Purestorage believes that MLC will be the trend, and he can achieve the same level of durability as SLC.
FlashBlade is Pure Storage's rack-scale flash memory system, which uses a variety of protocols to access unstructured data. It is also the first object-based all-flash unstructured data storage system on the market. However, its rack size is different from EMC's DSSD rack-scale flash memory system, which is mainly aimed at latency-sensitive structured data. FlasshArray / m is mainly oriented to structured data. In fact, FlashBlade is a supplement to the existing FlashArray / / m scheme.
FlashBlade is designed for potentially large-scale unstructured data sets, such as the Internet of things, log data, and machine data. It can be associated with large-scale simulation tasks, including traditional weather forecast and airflow analysis, security threat analysis, big data analysis and so on.
FlashBlade can increase storage capacity, IO and metadata performance, transmission bandwidth, and client connectivity by adding blade devices under non-destructive conditions. The level of consistency and low latency it provides should far exceed that of disk-based object storage systems.
The FlashBlade design uses 15 same-side arranged blades in 4U space, and the device can achieve several PB-level storage capacity by expanding out. The blade is a complete storage node server.
The blade contains Elastic Fabric Connector for external 40GbitE networks, supports NAND raw storage capacity from 8 TB to 52 TB (similar to FlashArray//m systems, using Samsung's 3D V-NAND TLC), built-in NV-RAM to provide strong buffer storage capacity, plus an ARM CPU core and a FPGA. The inter-blade network is connected with the computing and memory cards through the PCI card special protocol.
Elasticity software is responsible for providing a universal extended object storage system, which can be accessed through file NFS, CIFS and object protocols, and has the ability to adapt to new protocols in the future, that is, the upcoming HDFS.
The functional features of Elasticity software stack include Elastic Core with end-to-end garbage collection, LDPC error recovery, snapshot function, replication function, data reduction and re-deletion, encryption and other enterprise storage functions. Elasticity has a set of namespaces and metadata addressing capabilities that can create more than 100 million unique objects / files per second. It provides a set of Web GUI management interface and REST API interface.
On DELL EMC WORLD 2016, the Isilon All Flash product was released, which uses the new OneFS software to integrate tiering and data acceleration with old storage nodes through upgrades, so Dell EMC also defines Isilon All Flash as an accelerator of the data lake.
The new all-flash Isilon does not use NVRAM to keep logs, but directly uses flash memory. The all-flash Isilon actually has only one hardware form, with four nodes in a 4U chassis. Each node supports 15 SSD disks. The capacity of the disk can be selected. There are three types of disk: 1.6TB, 3.2TB, 15.4TB. The interconnection interface of the node must be IB or 400000 megabytes, which can be expanded to up to 100 chassis, that is, 400 nodes, and the capacity can be supported to 100PB.
After a series of restructurings (EF series, FlashRay) and SolidFire in the flash market, NetApp released the all-flash AFF 8000 series last year, which improves performance and data management capabilities. Improve flash performance and efficiency through software innovations such as NetApp Data ONTAP FlashEssentials.
Recently, NetApp launched the AFF A700s series, including A200 entry-level systems, A300 midrange systems and A700s high-end systems. A-Series storage systems provide users with the highest scalable performance in the industry, using a NVMe network-ready cluster architecture that is the first to support 15 TBSSD, 32Gb fiber, and 40Gb Ethernet connectivity.
The AFF A-Series fully supports complex public cloud environments. Support users to connect to various public cloud open solutions, including AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, etc., inheriting the Scale Out NAS capabilities of FAS, and well support NAS file application loads in different scenarios.
