Building a new generation of data centers with green

--Record of "New Generation Data Center Energy Saving Summit Forum"

Green energy saving has become an important feature of the new generation of data centers. How to save energy? That's certainly what a lot of enterprise CIOs who are struggling with the current data center are dying to know. Is there a formal process that users can follow? Obviously, there is no standard answer. IBM defines its evolution route as three stages: simplification, sharing and dynamic;HP divides the development of next-generation data center into five stages: separated, standardized, optimized, service-oriented and adaptive shared infrastructure through its six key technologies;EMC solves the energy consumption problem of data center through integration, optimization and automation. H3C, based on the data-centric concept, proposed the UDDC (Unify Distribute Data Center) construction model... In so many energy-saving roads with their own strengths, there are many different opinions. So in addition to the network manufacturers for the data center energy saving "consultation," as a data center to provide comprehensive wiring system solutions for the wiring enterprise-American Simon company, data center energy saving and what kind of "panacea" it?

A few days ago, at the "New Generation Data Center Energy Saving Summit Forum" jointly organized by the Data Center Working Group of Information Communication Professional Committee of China Engineering Construction Standardization Association and Simon Company of America, Mr. Carl N., President and CEO of Simon Company of America. Siemon brought the latest energy-saving technologies and concepts of U.S. data centers to Beijing to communicate and discuss with experts in China's data center industry and representatives of end users.

a congenial meeting scene.

Mr Carl N. Siemon looks back at the changes in IT in recent years from a strategic perspective, with the dramatic growth in the number of Internet users, the abundance of multimedia network resources, the continued growth in outsourcing needs, and the emergence of virtualization and cloud computing driving more data center investment. However, huge data centers also consume a lot of energy, and according to Gartner, global data center operations generate the same carbon emissions as aviation, but are growing faster. So, how to deal with the increasingly prominent energy problem? Carl went on to describe the bright future of IT: virtualization and "on-demand" models that can run more computing on less hardware, saving energy consumption; new energy-efficient chips, highly efficient cooling nanofluids, renewable new energy use, all of which will bring more good news for data center energy conservation. As one of the world's leading cabling suppliers, Simon Corporation of the United States has proposed the concept of "on-demand investment" for data center integrated cabling. The so-called "on-demand investment" means that according to the core needs of data center users, Siemon's professional team provides customers with cost-effective and environmentally friendly design solutions.

Of course, users also need to evaluate the supply chain and consider the environmental footprint of data center equipment manufacturers when selecting data center solutions. Carl is also proud of the fact that Simon's headquarters has achieved carbon neutrality. Simon's award-winning 3000-acre Branch Hill Forest Farm, and Simon's 900-tonne waste recycling in 2009, as well as the company's clean solar system, reduced carbon emissions by a total of 16330 tonnes. Siemon's total carbon emissions from its facilities, including Siemon's U.S. headquarters and U.S. plants, electricity and fossil fuel use, as well as business flights, were 4804 metric tons in one year. Siemon USA achieved a milestone of negative carbon emissions by reducing carbon emissions by more than 3.3 times compared to its actual emissions.

In response to the problem of energy conservation in China's data centers, researcher Zhong Jinghua, head of the data center working group, combined the national standard GB50174 "Design Specification for Electronic Information Room" and the "White Paper on Application Technology of Data Center Wiring System Engineering" recently released by the Integrated Wiring Working Group, said that the current annual increase in data centers in China exceeds 40%, and the annual total power consumption is also calculated as early as 10 billion kWh. From an enterprise perspective, data center power consumption is also a major issue that puzzles operators. The overall energy saving and emission reduction of the new generation of data centers should be paid attention to at the beginning of construction, which is mainly reflected in five aspects, namely, the selection of computer room location, building energy conservation, equipment layout, air conditioning energy conservation, and illumination energy conservation.

This summit forum invited several user representatives from the financial community and IDC providers, who put forward requirements and expectations for data center energy conservation from different application perspectives and different construction needs, and analyzed and discussed the application of some new energy-saving concepts abroad in China. During the interactive discussion session, Mr. Feng Yuzhou, General Manager of Siemon Asia Pacific, Mr. Peng Hao, General Manager of China, Mr. Chen Yutong, Technical Manager of China, and Mr. Carl jointly answered questions from reporters and users on site, and also shared Siemon's high performance cabling solutions, including industry-leading Z-MAX 6A copper cables, Plug and Play optical fibers, MapIT G2 intelligent cabling, and VersaPOD data center cabinets. By extending the life cycle of cabling, Reduce material waste, reduce power consumption, improve channel airflow, improve heat management, provide green data center design services, etc., to bring green energy saving to users.

At the end of this summit forum, in order to express their determination to protect the whole earth and save energy, all the guests personally made environmental protection bags together with Mr. Carl under the initiative of Simon Company in the United States, hoping to contribute to the environmental protection of the whole earth through such a small move.
