This article shows you how to run openSUSE in Windows 10. The content is concise and easy to understand. It will definitely brighten your eyes. I hope you can get something through the detailed introduction of this article.

Several recent Windows 10 compilations have come with a complete set of Ubuntu-based Bash Shell so that developers can run Linux software or commands directly on the Windows desktop, which is called "Bash on Ubuntu on Windows". Although not officially announced, hands-on people have also found a way to run openSUSE and SUSE Linux Enterprise operating systems in Windows 10.

Interested netizens can access it directly on the Windows 10 start menu.

Hannes K ü hnemund, senior product manager at SUSE, pointed out that Microsoft actually "chose the wrong default Linux distribution" for the Linux subsystem of Windows 10, so he had to teach everyone how to use SUSE in WSL himself.

The reason for recommending SUSE is that we have known about it since 1992, and you can't find an earlier Linux' manufacturer'(release).

If you are a fan of SUSE Linux and want to use the distribution in Windows 10, you don't have to install a virtual machine or configure dual booting.

K ü hnemund uses openSUSE Leap 42.2 as an example and gives the following tutorials for use in WSL (also applicable to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Edition 12 SP2).

If you don't know how to enable WSL, please read the tutorial (Portal) given by MSDN first. During the installation process, make sure that you have created a regular account with a password.

(1) first, run the following command to download and open the docker user space for openSUSE Leap 42.2.

Wget-O openSUSE-42.2.tar.xz https://github.com/openSUSE/docker-containers-build/blob/openSUSE-42.2/docker/openSUSE-42.2.tar.xz?raw=true

(2) next, open Linux bash shell on the start menu and execute the second step command.

Sudo mkdir rootfs sudo tar-C rootfs-Jxf openSUSE-42.2.tar.xz exit

(3) after completion, please confirm to back up the current "Bash on Ubuntu on Window" installation (execute the following command).

Cd% localappdata%\ lxss\ rename rootfs rootfs.ubuntu

(4) then copy the new openSUSE Leap 42.2 rootfs (root file system)...

Move.\ home\\ rootfs.\

(5) remove the default user root.

Lxrun / setdefaultuser root

(6) when you are done, you can type "bash" the next time you click the Windows button to access Linux shell directly, actually having an openSUSE or SLES user space in the Windows Linux subsystem.

It's worth mentioning that you can also replace the default "Bash on Ubuntu on Window" icon (with SUSE's Logo)-- just execute the following command:

Cd% localappdata%\ lxss\ rename bash.ico Ubuntu.ico rename Saki-NuoveXT-Apps-suse.ico bash.ico

Alternatively, you can rename "Bash on Ubuntu on Window" to a name such as "Bash on SUSE on Windows"-just go to the following path and rename the default entry.

% AppData%\ Microsoft\ Windows\ Start Menu\ Programs this is how to run openSUSE in Windows 10. Have you learned any knowledge or skills? If you want to learn more skills or enrich your knowledge reserve, you are welcome to follow the industry information channel.
