Starting with Kali Linux 2019.4, the default installation process creates a normal user. However, some operations, such as the ifconfig command, require root permission to perform. At this point, users can quickly switch from ordinary users to root users by using the sudo command. Execute the command as follows:

C:\ home\ daxueba > sudo su-# ordinary user

C:\ root > # root user

You can see from the command prompt that you successfully switched from C:\ home\ daxueba > to C:\ root >. This shows that it was successfully switched to a root user. If you need to exit the root user, execute the exit command. Note that the environment used in the above example is Undercover mode. Therefore, the command line prompt environment looks similar to Windows. If it is the default XFCE desktop, the normal user command line prompt is displayed as $and the root user command line prompt is displayed as #. As follows:
