Pure Storage outlines its architectural plans for integrating new workloads such as data, storage, and artificial intelligence, as well as new consumption models.

The general idea is that Pure's data center architecture will support more as-a-service delivery models, help machine learning become mainstream, and push NVMe technology to more enterprises. NVMe, which stands for NVM Express, is the standard for faster access to non-volatile storage.

Pure's roadmap revolves around the idea that companies will move from using data as an information asset to the idea of storing, sharing and analyzing local data and, more importantly, storing it in the cloud.

"the storage mindset is shifting to a shared data service," said Matt Kixmoeller, vice president of strategy at Pure. A data-centric architecture enables data to be used as a service within the company and links traditional storage architectures to scale-out approaches.

In this slide, we introduce the architectural approach.

To support this work, Pure outlines a series of building blocks. At first, the company launched FlashArray//X, which has more configurations, such as NVMe and flash memory.

The FlashArray//X series is designed to support storage consolidation and connect a variety of technologies. FlashArray//X90 can provide a capacity of 3 pb in 6 units.

Kixmoeller said Pure would not charge NVMe a high price because the technology would become mainstream. "there's nothing strange about NVMe," he said.

In terms of artificial intelligence, Pure has released AI-mini, an integrated system powered by NVIDIA, designed for artificial intelligence workloads. Nvidia and Pure have outlined AIRI this year, but ai-mini provides a system for smaller deployments and companies. AIRI is built on Pure FlashBlade and is designed for data science teams and their projects.

Ai-mini is configured with a 7x 17TB blade server, two NVIDIA DGX-1 servers, and a 100GbE switch. AIRI uses NVIDIA's GPU cloud and deep learning stack. The AIRI portfolio also applies to Cisco's Nexus9000 switches.

Pure has also added a new consumption model called Evergreen Storage Service (ES2), which will combine FlashArray with the cloud consumption model. Pure is responsible for managing the hardware, and customers can pay for baseline capacity, but have the flexibility to handle emergencies.

The goal is to provide more storage as a service deployment. It is said that Pure ES2 can be installed in a few days and a year in a short time. According to Evergreen Gold's three-year plan, Pure includes the latest generation of FlashArray controllers.
