T2 instance is a burst performance instance, which not only provides a basic level of CPU performance, but also has the ability to perform higher performance in the short term. In general, AWS offers more varieties, but OTC also has its own characteristics.
Root device Volum
You can start an instance from the instance store that supports AMI or Amazon EBS supports AMI. The description of AMI includes the type of AMI; you will see that in some places the root device is called ebs (which indicates support by AmazonEBS) or instance store (which indicates support by instance storage). This is important because there is a big difference in what you can do with each AMI.
Instances supported by instance storage
Using instance Storage as an instance of the root device comes with one or more instance storage volumes available, one of which acts as the root device volume. When an instance is started, the image used to start the instance is copied to the root volume. Note that you can choose to use other instances to store volumes depending on the instance type.
All data on the instance storage volume exists as long as the instance is running, but it will be deleted when the instance terminates (the instance supported by the instance storage does not support Stop) or when the instance fails (for example, if there is a problem with the underlying hard disk).
An instance supported by Amazon instance storage cannot be restored after it fails or terminates. If you plan to use an instance supported by Amazon EC2 instance storage, we strongly recommend that you allocate data to the instance store across multiple availability zones. You should also back up critical data on your instance storage volumes to persistent storage on a regular basis.
Instances supported by Amazon EBS
Use Amazon EBS as an instance of the root device to automatically attach Amazon EBS volumes. When you start an instance supported by AmazonEBS, an AmazonEBS volume is created for each AmazonEBS snapshot referenced by the AMI you use. You can choose to use other AmazonEBS volumes or instance storage volumes depending on the instance type.
Instances supported by Amazon EBS can be stopped and then restarted, and the data stored in the connected volumes will not be affected. When an instance supported by Amazon EBS is stopped, you can complete a variety of tasks related to that instance and volume. For example, you can modify the properties of an instance, you can change the size of the instance or update the kernel used by the instance, or you can connect your root volume to another running instance for debugging or any other purpose.
If an instance supported by Amazon EBS fails, you can resume your session in one of the following ways:
Stop and start again (try this method first).
Automatically take a snapshot of the related volume and create a new AMI. For more information, see creating Linux AMI supported by Amazon EBS.
Connect the volume to a new instance by following these steps:
Create a snapshot of the root volume.
Register a new AMI with a snapshot.
Launch a new instance from the new AMI.
Detach the remaining Amazon EBS volumes from the old instance.
Reconnect the Amazon EBS volume to the new instance.
