Gaming smartphones powered by Snapdragon 875 will be equipped with 100W fast charging, leaker Digital Chat Station reported.

It is rumored that Snapdragon 875 is Qualcomm's flagship chip and is expected to become a major upgrade to the current Snapdragon 865 SoC. The Snapdragon 865 is made in a 7-nanometer process, while the upcoming silicon will be made in a 5-nanometer process, which will make it faster and more energy-efficient. The onboard x60 5G modem will achieve further power conversion.

The digital chat station claims that next year's gaming smartphones powered by Qualcomm's undeclared chips will not only support fast charging, but will also be equipped with large batteries. It sounds like a successful combination, because not only the charging speed will be improved, but also the battery capacity will be increased, so that users can use it for a long time without wasting the phone's power.

Xiaomi stressed his concern about 100-watt fast charging.

Xiaomi also demonstrated its 100W super charging turbine fast charging solution, which can replenish 4000 mAh batteries to 100 per cent capacity in just 17 minutes.

That said, 100W charging may look good in the long run, but it may do more harm than good for mobile phone batteries in the long run. OPPO has clearly admitted that its 40W fast charging technology allows the battery to degrade much faster than 15W charging.

Lu, vice president of Xiaomi, also warned that ultra-fast charging has many limitations, including the above capacity loss, implementation issues, sustainability issues, safety issues, compatibility issues and so on.

Huge batteries are needed to extend game time, which explains why the Asustek ROG PHONE II is equipped with a huge 6000mAh battery. Since Snapdragon 875 uses 5G as its standard feature, it will consume more power, which may explain why Chinese manufacturers are eager to launch phones with larger batteries and faster charging.

If the leak is accurate, the first batch of equipment should arrive in the first quarter of 2021.
