I have written two blogs about Microsoft putting its virtual application RemoteApp on the Azure cloud platform to transform traditional Windows applications into a delivery method similar to SaaS applications.

Aside from thinking about all kinds of applications and their future development, Microsoft suddenly stopped supporting RemoteApp.

As a veteran application virtualization vendor, Citrix's XenApp is well known, and now XenApp has deployed the solution to Azure. Through the Azure market, you can find the trial of XenApp.

According to the introduction of Citrix's official website, the architecture of XenAp in Azure is different from that of private cloud. Relying on the architecture of Azure, in addition to the virtual machine resources that are easy to understand, you also need to use Azure's Azure VNET to connect to various server components, Storage Account to support SQL databases, and Load Balancer to provide access mapping for the entire architecture (load balancing can also be done by VPX) Jump Box for remote management of RDP is also provided.

From the deployment point of view, Domain Controller is independent, so it is convenient to achieve cross-network hybrid deployment or use Azure AD in the future. Because it is a test environment, SQL Server, license server, delivery controller DDC and access server StoreFront are placed on a virtual server, and then a virtual machine-based VDI and a process-based RDSH are released.

Whether this configuration can fully verify the use of XenApp architecture in Azure.

By searching the Citrix keyword, you can see that three products have been integrated into the Azure cloud, namely XenApp, NetScaler VPX and ShareFile, covering applications, data and connections, in line with the strategic direction of Citrix.

3. Azure will verify the provision of resources according to the preparation template. If approved and confirmed, you can continue.

4. Azure will display the terms of use of the product provider. After clicking "Buy", Azure will begin to be prepared.

It takes some time to prepare the deployment, mainly to generate various resources based on the template file. You can view the generated resources:

After a long wait, you can finally access XenApp on the public cloud.

Citrix itself is also promoting Citrix Cloud cloud services, making use of existing cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS to access all kinds of applications anytime and anywhere through the cloud, while providing secure enterprise network disk sharing, and using secure and efficient software-defined networks to connect people to applications and data.

If you want to do the same test, you may have to wait a while. The current XenApp template file is based on the previous Aure management architecture ASM, and deployment problems will be encountered when using the current management architecture ARM.
