Ryan Levering and Michal Cutler counted 21500 non-Frame web pages in 2006 and found that these pages contain an average of 474words, 281HTML tags and 41 links, of which 10 are off-site links. They also found that the average page height is 1440 pixels, which is twice the height of the screen. When the page opens, users see the most graphics, not text, and graphics are the main objects in the page. Graphics are the most important factor in the slow opening of pages.

Similar statistics in 2007 found that although CSS has been widely adopted, 62.6% of pages still use table layout and 32.8% use font tags. Usage of JavaScript

In 2007, 84.8% of web pages used scripts, and the average size of external scripts was about 8K and about 6K after compression. The total script size is 68K and 49K after compression. The average number of external scripts is 7.

Usage of CSS

In the statistics of 2007, 82.4% of the web pages used link tags, 54.5% used style tags (with an average of 2.27 internal style tags), the average volume of the external style sheet was 6K, after compression was 4K, the size of the total style sheet was 15K, and the compressed size was 10K.

The use of pictures

The growth trend of multimedia content

The use of streaming media is growing at an annual rate of almost 100%. From 2000 to 2005, the capacity of streaming media files increased by 600%. 87% of the streaming content was interrupted by users in the first 10 seconds, but they wasted 20% of the server bandwidth. Statistics also show that 3% of streaming media is video, but takes up 98.6% of the bandwidth, while 10% of the most popular videos come from YouTube, grabbing 80% of the eyeballs.

In 1997, 90 per cent of videos were no more than 45 seconds. In 2005, the average length of video was 120 seconds. In 2007, the length increased to 192.6 seconds, and the bit rate of video increased from 200K in 2005 to 328K (YouTube) in 2007. As a result, at the end of 2007, the average size of video content was 63m, at YouTube, the average size was 10m, and 65000 new video files were added every day.
