Users can use the function of port mirroring (SPAN) to copy the messages of the designated port to another port connected with network monitoring equipment on the switch for network monitoring and troubleshooting.

IV. Contents and steps of the experiment

The destination port (also known as the monitoring port) is used to receive a copy of the message from the source port. In a SPAN session, the user can monitor the input and output messages of one or more source ports. The source and destination ports can belong to the same VLAN or to different VLAN.

The specific steps are as follows:

Step 1: configure session 1 with source port 4 and destination port 5, which will monitor the incoming and outgoing data of port 4

Step 2: test the monitoring effect of port 15

Select three test computers, such as PC4,PC5,PC6, disable the network card 1 of the three computers, set the IP address of the network card 2 on the same network segment, for example, the three computers are 1.1.1.2, 1.1.3, and 1.1.1.4 respectively, and then enable the network card 2 of the three computers. Connect the network cable of the network card 2 of the three computers used for testing in the cabinet to the corresponding ports of the configured switch, for example, connect to f0pe4 and f0pe5 respectively, then open wirshark on the test computer PC5 connected to f0pic5, ping 1.1.1.4 (the IP address of PC4) on PC4, and observe whether PC6 can receive ICMP interactive data packets.
