Editor to share with you how Eclipse marched into Web development, I believe most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, let's go to know it!
The Eclipse Foundation has begun to focus on the preparation of the Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE) for the future and will better adapt to the requirements of the cloud infrastructure and runtime framework in the new project plan.
Eclipse has always been known for its development tools, such as its signature Eclipse IDE. Swordfish says its goal is to make its own brand in the area where the framework is running.
This week, Eclipse also described that it is trying to develop through the Eclipse 4.0 platform (E4). This could lead to a series of changes that liberate IDE from the desktop side.
Both projects are planned to appear in applications of various sizes on the web, on cloud computing platforms, and on service-oriented enterprise architectures. As a result, developers and their development tools are constantly improving themselves to adapt to this trend.
This is particularly important for the Eclipse framework, because Eclipse has become one of the important infrastructure for new application development, and it is also the basic technology of tools released by IBM,Oracle,SAP, Red Hat and other vendors. However, the core Eclipse IDE has been desktop applications since its inception-and that is about to change.
Now Swordfish is the main force for Eclipse to develop in a new direction.
Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation, said: "this is part of the breadth trend of Eclipse, as Eclipse is moving into the runtime domain. Eclipse will take a two-pronged approach in terms of operational framework collections and traditional tool development."
SOA runs programs based on OSGi's ESB, while OSGi is a plug-in structure that can be seen everywhere in Eclipse. The main features are dynamic service registration for loosening service federation and deployment, scalability, and support for distributed ESB. Milinkovich also mentions Swordfish's remote setup Agent (remote configuration agent) and an extensible monitoring framework for monitoring events and tracking details.
Eclipse 4.0marches into Web
Similarly, Eclipse 4.0 (E4) is of similar importance to Eclipse.
"E4 is a platform for technological innovation and the community to nurture technology, which is our common desire for the Eclipse platform. Among the main areas that E4 focuses on, * is to bring Eclipse to the network side." That's what Milinkovich said.
The process of moving to the web will take some time, and Milinkovich expects to launch a beta version of E4 this summer, while the final version will not be released until at least 2010.
Milinkovich explained that E4 will be designed to take into account platforms such as Ajax,Adobe Flexible and Microsoft Silverlight, which will be gradually implemented based on the existing Eclipse SWT (standard control toolkit) and Eclipse RAP (rich Ajax platform).
While bringing Eclipse UI to the network, Eclipse will also change the way it associates plug-ins. According to Milinkovich, another important goal of E4 is to make Eclipse a service platform (platform of services). The idea is to make it possible to program on E4 through Web services, making it easier to write a platform for Eclipse.
"if UI can run in a browser, this means that the application will run on the server, and communication between the UI and the application requires some kind of service-oriented communication (service-orientated communication)." Milinkovich said.
Eclipse may also work with the Mozilla Foundation for its online IDE effort. IDE effort, the Bespin online editor launched by Mozilla earlier this year, is one of the moves to bring Web development to the web.
Milinkovich said Eclipse has started working with Mozilla Bespin and they will discuss specific cooperation policies for Eclipse and Mozilla at the headquarters of the Eclipse Foundation in Ottawa, Canada.
The Eclipse 3.0 platform was released in 2004 and is currently version 3.4, while version 3.5 will be released later this year. Milinkovich said that the existence of E4 does not mean that Eclipse will stop supporting the 3.x platform. The fact is that updates to Eclipse 3.x will continue for at least five years.
