Editor to share with you what is the reason for the 2004 blue screen crash in Win10, I believe most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference. I hope you will gain a lot after reading this article. Let's learn about it together.

As you all know, earlier this month, Lenovo released a support document informing its ThinkPad users that they might encounter BSOD and device manager problems after installing cumulative updates in August 2020. The company recommends that you disable the enhanced Windows biometric Security setting in the BIOS Settings > Security > Virtualization menu, and don't miss it if you are interested.

More than two weeks later, Microsoft finally released official support documents detailing the cause of the blue screen problem in ThinkPad and warning that Lenovo's proposed approach "may make computers or networks more vulnerable to malicious users or malicious software."

Microsoft clarified that this issue was not caused by the August patch Tuesday update, but by the July KB4568831 (build 19041.423) preview update. After installing a July or newer update, the Lenovo ThinkPad device will encounter a Stop error (also known as bugcheck) or a blue screen error.

IT House learned that the codes associated with errors are "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" (in the "stop error messages" screen) and "0xc0000005 access denied" (in memory dump files and other logs). The associated process is ldiagio.sys.

Microsoft explained that these latest Windows 10 cumulative updates limit "how processes access the Peripheral component Interconnect (PCI) device configuration space if there is a security appliance (SDEV) ACPI table and virtualization-based security (VBS) is running." The company says the new restrictions exist to prevent malicious processes from modifying the configuration space of security devices. Lenovo ThinkPad manufactured in 2019 and 2020 meets the conditions that trigger these errors.

"when Lenovo Vantage software is running, some versions may attempt to access the PCI device configuration space in an unsupported way," the company wrote. "this action caused a Stop error on the related device."

Microsoft also offers the same temporary solution that Lenovo previously shared.

To temporarily alleviate this problem, edit the device UEFI configuration (in the Security > Virtualization section) to disable enhanced Windows biometric security. This change disables SDEV table and VBS enabled restrictions.

However, the company added the following warning (which has been removed):

This solution may make your computer or network more vulnerable to malicious users or malicious software, such as viruses. We do not recommend that you use this alternative, but provide this information so that you can decide to implement it. Using this alternative is at your own risk.

Microsoft said it was working on the patch, but did not disclose the expected time.
