Description of the problem phenomenon:

Some users reflect that multiple corresponding baskdisk of the same name take up storage space on the same computer directory on Hypervisor storage and do not know how to clear it.

Background and principle:

The principle of Citrix Machine Creation Service (MCS) is not described in detail here. The main purpose of MCS is to create more virtual machines in batches based on one virtual machine template. Here we briefly recall the steps of creating MCS:

Select desktop operating system type (server, desktop or RemotePC) Select power hosting and provisioning type and specify the managed host you need to use Select Desktop Type (proprietary, Pool static, Pool Random) Select template or snapshot (it is recommended to create a snapshot first and then select a specified snapshot for subsequent management) choose the number of created, memory Cache size, select the corresponding OU and command rules select scope and specify the name of the computer directory

After completing the above steps, it is handed over to DDC to perform without user intervention. It needs to be noted here that the managed host selected in step 2 is designed to configure the network, storage and GPU resources needed to create the machine. During the process of creating or updating a computer directory, MCS copies one Basedisk for each storage in the used managed host (for example, 10 shared storage is configured in the user XenServer resource pool, but 5 shared storage is configured in the managed host, and basedisk is copied to the specified 5 storage).

Possible causes of the problem:

Copy timeout and keep retrying the user's existing VM is not associated with the new basedisk does not reach the system automatic deletion time other reasons

Solution:

For Citrix XenServer:

Open Citrix studio- > query-> make sure there is no pending update (pending update) machine

* * Note: or check it through Powershell "Get-BrokerMachine-ImageOutOfDate $true | select MachineName". Restart the machine if the machine can be queried. Make sure that the query does not return any VM, and then perform the following actions: run Powershell and enter asnp citrix for administrator permissions on DDC to load snapin and enter Get-Provscheme to query the computer directory corresponding to ProvsioningSchemeUid and host (default ProvsioningSchemeName is the computer directory name)

Open the database server and find the table [DesktopUpdateManagerSchema]. [ProvisioningSchemeVMImageLocation]. In this table we can see the storage corresponding to this computer directory and the UUID corresponding to basedisk.

Open XenCenter to find the corresponding storage id in the above step:

From step 4.5 to see the UUID corresponding to the basedisk being used on this storage, we record here that because multiple basedisk exist with the same name, we can only distinguish them by uuid. Go back to the XenServer command line and rename the basedisk you are using with the following command. Others that have not been renamed can be deleted through xencenter.

You can delete basedisk on other storage by referring to the above steps.

For VMWare Esxi

Refer to step 1 above to browse the datastore corresponding to VMWare through the client or web page. Here we can see that there are multiple basedisk corresponding to the same computer directory.

3. Close any computer in this computer directory and browse to the folder where its disk is located to find the file of-xd-delta.vmdk and download it locally

When the text editor opens this file, we can see the basedisk being used.

Delete the other basedisk queried in step 2.
