Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
This article mainly introduces how to use Active Directory Sizer planning infrastructure requirements, has a certain reference value, interested friends can refer to, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, the following let Xiaobian take you to understand.
The role of Active Directory Sizer
Active Directory Sizer can help users estimate and plan the number of domain controllers, disk space, RAM requirements, server CPU requirements, and bandwidth requirements needed to support active Directory. All assessments provided by this tool are based on user-provided information, such as the current number of users, the CPU utilization required for each domain controller, and the average number of logins per second during peak periods.
Installation and operation
Active Directory Sizer can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. Execute the Setup.exe file on Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems to install. When installing, simply run the execution file and accept the default selection.
Click start | Program | Active Directory Sizer | Active Directory Sizer to run the tool. (if the user uses the Luna interface in XP, click start | all programs | Active Directory Sizer | Active Directory Sizer)
Get useful information from Active Directory Sizer tools
GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) is a phrase often used in database work in the IT industry, and it is also truly reflected in Active Directory Sizer tools. When the information is entered into the utility, it will feed back the evaluation information to the user, so that the user can use the tool to get useful information.
After starting the tool, select: file | New active Directory wizard. The next six steps are demonstrated one by one in the following examples.
The step is simple: the operation wizard requires a domain name. Slowe.com is used in the following example. The second step combines the user account information and the two screens of the operation wizard. * the screen is shown in figure A, and Table An explains its options.
Click "next" to enter the second user account window and ask for policies and more detailed information about the organization (figure B). The following table explains its options.
In the third step, you need to understand the computers in the user's domain
The fourth step of the wizard will ask you to estimate how many objects you need to add, delete, and change within a given period of time. As shown in figure E, 350 accounts are planned to be added, 275 deleted and 200 changed every day.
When running Microsoft Exchange 2000, because of the tight integration of Microsoft Exchange 2000 and active Directory, additional requirements can be added to the domain controller. The steps of the wizard are to collect information about Exchange 2000, all of which are self-explanatory.
The operation wizard needs to know, on average, how many messages are sent per user per day? How many recipients are there? How many Exchange 2000 servers and mail routing groups do you own? For example, it is estimated that the message traffic for slowe.com is 35 messages per day, with an average of 7 recipients per message, 10 Exchange servers and two mail routing groups. As shown in figure F.
One of the steps in the Operations Wizard is about services, asking about the Windows 2000 DNS services and whether to use them in all areas of the active Directory. In this step, you need to specify how many users who use dial-up login have joined the domain, how long the * period of DHCP is, and the usage information of DNS. For example, there are 250 dial-in users in the slowe.com domain, and the termination period of DHCP is three days later, and the default value of DNS aging information is 7. As shown in figure G.
If other applications use active Directory, such as other active Directory connectors, or Directory synchronization software, the second screen of the service step allows you to estimate the amount of work extended using these applications (as shown in figure H). For example, there are no such services in slowe.com.
Result
The use of a large number of users in the example is intended to demonstrate the results of requiring 36 basic servers to support slowe.com day-to-day jobs (figure I).
Click the domain controller options to display the recommended configurations for every 13 recommended domain controllers, including RAM, disk space requirements, and RAID standards for enforcement limits. (figure J)
