Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--
To build the RAC environment today, we want to let the shared disk of RAC use the disk space of the storage device, so create a shared disk in the RAC under vmware vsphere5 to avoid forgetting in the future. I hope it will be of some help to you.
The following are the relevant creation steps, excerpts for you to learn.
To create one 20GB datastore for a virtual machine
1. In vSphere Client, select a virtual machine.
2. Right-click the name of the virtual machine and select Edit Settings to display the Virtual Machine Properties pane.
3. Click Add to display the Add Hardware wizard.
4. In the Add Hardware wizard select Hard Disk for the Device Type, and click Next.
5. In the Disk section of the Select a Disk page, select Create a new virtual disk. Set the disk size to 20GB, select the Support clustering features such as Fault Tolerance check box, and select CRS1 to specify a datastore. Also, for vSphere 5, in the Disk Provisioning section select Thick Provision Eager Zeroed. Click Next.
6. On the Compatibility Mode page, click Next.
7. On the Advanced Options page, in the Virtual Device Node section, select SCSI (1: 0). In the Mode section, select Independent. Click Next.
8. On the Ready to Complete page, click Finish.9. Click OK.
To create a second 20GB datastore for the virtual machine
1. Select the virtual machine that was selected in the preceding step 1.
2. Repeat steps 2 through 6 in the preceding procedure to create one 20GB datastore.
3. On the Advanced Options page, in the Virtual Device Node section, select SCSI (1: 0). In the Mode section, select Independent. Click Next.
4. Repeat steps 8 and 9 of the preceding procedure to create one 20GB datastore.
Shared disk used by VMware vSphere 5ax 6
1. Create a shared disk
Select a virtual machine to participate in the shared disk, edit the virtual machine configuration, select to add a new hardware "hard disk", and create a new virtual disk
Knowledge points to add:
1. Thick backup delay zeroing (zeroed thick)
Create a virtual disk in the default thick format. Allocate the required space for the virtual disk during creation. Any data retained on the physical device is not erased at creation time, but it is later zeroed as needed on the first write from the virtual machine.
To put it simply, a specified size of space is allocated immediately. The data in the space is not clear for the time being, and it will be emptied as needed later.
2. Thick setting zero (eager zeroed thick)
Create thick disks that support clustering features such as FaultTolerance. Allocate the required space for the virtual disk at creation time. In contrast to the flat format, the data retained on the physical device is zeroed during creation. It may take longer to create disks in this format than other types of disks.
To put it simply, a specified size of space is allocated immediately and all data in that space is emptied.
3. Simplified provisioning (thin)
Use the compact set format. Initially, a compact set-up disk uses only the data storage space that the disk originally needed. If the thin disk needs more space later, it can grow to the maximum capacity allocated to it.
To put it simply, specify the maximum growth space for the disk file, and check whether the limit is exceeded when it needs to grow.
In disk setup, select the thick setting zero; select our storage device FC-200G, and put our shared disk on storage; (of course, you can also choose to store it in the same directory as the virtual machine)
For the next "virtual device node", remember to select a separate SCSI device node. if you used SCSI locally (0:0), you can now choose SCSI (1:0). Anyway, the number before the colon cannot be the same as the local SCSI device. (in order to avoid the impact of snapshots on virtual machines, it is recommended that "mode" choose "persistent" mode)
2. Modify the new bus sharing mode of SCSI controller.
After the above work is completed, when you go back to the virtual machine device interface, you will see that there is a "new SCSI controller" in addition to the new hard disk. After selecting the device, select the "virtual" mode in the "SCSI bus sharing" section of the configuration item:
Next, click the "OK" button in the lower right corner, and the shared disk configuration of this virtual machine is complete.
3. Add a second virtual machine to connect to the shared disk
On the second virtual machine that participates in accessing the shared disk, also edit to add the new device "hard disk", but select "use existing virtual disk":
Browse to the shared disk created above and select the shared disk just created on the storage
The "Virtual device Node" section, like the first one, selects a separate SCSI node:
Go back to the "virtual machine properties" interface and change the "new SCSI controller" parameter to "virtual":
At this point, the configuration for the two virtual machines to share access to the same disk is complete. The verification method is simple, starting two virtual machines at the same time without warning or error, which means that the shared disk is created correctly.
Pay special attention to:
If, during the creation of the shared disk above, you did not select a thick setting of zero, and if the Virtual device Node section is the same as the local write disk (SCSI 0:0), the following error message will appear:
