Sony may celebrate PlayStation's anniversary months after selling 100m PS4 devices, but the Nintendo Switch is the hottest game console on the market. Switch was released two years ago and updated earlier this year. It is still one of the most popular game consoles, especially on Christmas Eve, where a large number of Switch games are sold at the lowest prices of the year. As of June 30, Nintendo had sold nearly 38 million Switch devices, an impressive milestone for the company, especially when you consider that Nintendo does not have access to a huge market. When the Switch went on sale, Sony confirmed that it had no plans to make a follow-up to the PS Vita in the near future.

In an interview with reporters, the 25th year of using game intelligence officers to talk about PlayStation games, Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive, made it clear that the company is not interested in handheld devices:

PlayStation Vita is excellent in many ways, and the actual gaming experience is great, but obviously, this is a business we no longer need.

In another comment from former president and CEO Andrew House, Sony wasn't excited about portable game consoles, so first:

Nintendo's Switch, especially the cheap Switch Lite, proves that people still like hand-held game consoles.

The giant announced Wednesday that it will establish a new partnership with Tencent and start selling Switch products. It goes on sale on December 4th, and the price of Switch in the region is 2099 yuan ($298). It was previously reported that Nintendo had been working with Tencent to get approval for the local launch of Switch. It is unclear whether Switch Lite will be listed in the region in the coming months.

Just as Sony and Microsoft are preparing for the next big performance leap in console games, it could become a key market for Nintendo. When PS5 and Xbox Scarlett launch two new consoles next fall, they may bring some fierce competition to Nintendo.
