1.1 introduction to backup infrastructure components
It contains the following backup components
Backup Server: backup server: can be installed on the physical machine or virtual machine of windows. It is the core component of VBR. It is responsible for coordinating backup, replication, recovery verification, restore tasks, and global settings for controlling task scheduling, resource allocation and management of other basic components. At the same time, the newly deployed backup server also acts as a backup agent and backup repository.
Backup & Replication Console: backup and recovery console, which can be deployed separately or together with the backup server. After deploying Backup & Replication Console on a remote machine, you can manage the backup server through the console. The backup client version number is required to be the same as the backup server version number.
Vitualization Servers and Hosts: virtualize servers and hosts. You can add VMware vSphere Server, VMware vCloud Director, Microsoft Windows Server and Linux Server to the backup infrastructure. You can add physical machines or virtual machines and assign them different roles. Different types of servers can play different roles, as shown in the following figure:
Backup Proxy: backup agent for handling tasks and passing backup traffic, including fetching virtual machine data from production storage, compressing, de-re-encrypting, and sending backup data to the backup repository.
Backup Repository: backup repository, which can be divided into external ordinary backup repository, external backup repository and unlimited extended backup repository.
Guest Interaction Proxy: interactive client agent, which is required if the following three virtual machine processes are used for backup and replication tasks:
L Application-aware processing
L Guest file system indexing
L Transaction logs processing
This component allows the backup server to communicate with Guest OS through the public network, but it can only deploy running processes on windows virtual machines. Other machines need to deploy running processes using backup servers.
Gateway Server: gateway server, an auxiliary component. If shared file repositories, Dell EMC Data Domain restores applications or HPE StoreOnce restores applications are used in the repository, a gateway server is required. It is recommended that the gateway server be deployed close to the backup repository. If EMC Data Domain and HPE StoreOnce de-restorage are used, it is recommended to deploy the gateway server close to the backup agent.
Mount Server: Mount the server to perform file level, application items, and security recovery, mount the backup, and then copy it to the target side. Mount Server can be deployed in backup repositories, backup servers, and VBR console.
Veeam vPower NFS Service: a service running on a windows machine that allows the machine to act as a NFS server, mainly for recovery verification, instant virtual machine recovery, phased recovery, general application recovery (U-AIR), and multi-operating system file-level recovery.
WAN Accelerators: Wan acceleration, global data caching and data deduplication
Log Shipping Servers: log transfer server for SQL Server Transation log and Oracle archive log.
Tape Servers: tape server
Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager: manage and schedule multiple backup servers through the Web interface, at the same time, it can be configured uniformly.
1.2 typical deployment scenario 1.2.1 simple deployment
All the components are deployed on the same machine, and it acts as management, scheduling, backup agent, backup repository, mount server and interactive client agent.
Suitable for enterprises with a small number of virtual machines and light backup tasks, you can reasonably configure the time of backup tasks to let different tasks start at different times.
1.2.2 Advanced deployment
In a large environment, there are often a large number of tasks running at the same time, and the load of the backup server is heavy, so each component can be deployed separately, and each component can deploy one or more to reduce the pressure on the backup server. for example, deploy multiple backup agents to disperse the pressure of network transmission, and deploy multiple backup repositories to reduce the pressure of backup storage. The functional description of each component has been mentioned earlier, but it will not be explained here. The deployment architecture diagram is as follows:
