Using Microsoft iSCSI Software Target to build the iSCSI catalog on Windows Server 2008 R2

Standard server to connect to the iSCSI store with the iSCSI initiator at Windows 10

* * Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3can only be installed in Windows Server 2008 R2 server operating system. It is recommended to install virtual machine Windows Server 2008 R2.

1. Install Microsoft iSCSI Software Target

(1) configure the IP address 192.168.169.133 for Windows Server 2008 R2.

(2) Click iSCSI Software Target (x64) to start the installation

(3) Next can be selected in the installation process until the installation is completed.

2. Create iSCSI Software Target

(1) Open the control panel and manage Microsoft iSCSI Software Target in the tools. In the iSCSI target, right-select "create iSCSI target".

(2) name the iSCSI target

(3) set up the iSCSI initiator to connect to this iSCSI target, fill in the IQN identifier of the iSCSI initiator, or use the DNS address, IP address, and MAC address. Use the IP address of the iSCSI initiator here.

(4) Click Advanced, add, select the IP address at the identifier type, and fill in the IP address of the PC where the iSCSI initiator is located. Complete the creation of the iSCSI target.

Note: this IP is the IPv4 address of VMnet8 (if your virtual machine is connected to VMnet1, fill in the IPv4 address of VMnet1)

(5) create virtual disk: in the device, right-click to create a virtual disk

(6) enter the full path of the iSCSI virtual disk, where VD1.vhd is the iSCSI virtual disk file to be created.

(7) set the capacity of the iSCSI virtual disk, here set to 15GB. Note: a virtual disk file of 15GB will be created in the target directory. Please make sure that the free space of the target drive letter is sufficient.

(8) enter a virtual disk description

(9) set the iSCSI destination that can access this virtual disk: click add, and select the previously created iSCSI target

(10) the following is the created virtual disk

3. Connect iSCSI network storage

(1) in the Windows 10 operating system, open the control panel, administrative tools, iSCSI initiator, and click "Yes" to start the iSCSI service.

(2) switch to the "Discovery" tab, click "Discovery Portal" and enter the IP address of the Windows Server 2008 R2 server 192.168.169.133 (IP address in the first figure)

3) switch to the "destination" tab and you can see the IQN of the iSCSI target. If you can't see it, click Refresh.

(4) Select the IQN of the Windows Server 2008 R2 iSCSI target server, click Connect, and cancel "add this connection to the favorite target list" (if "add this connection to the favorite target list" is selected, Windows10 will automatically connect to this iSCSI target every time you boot. In an experimental environment, this is not necessary. )

(5) the status of the iSCSI target is connected

(6) Open Control Panel, Administrative tools, computer Management, and switch to disk Management, which will prompt you that the new disk must be initialized. Disk 2 of this 15GB is the iSCSI target located in Windows Server 2008 R2. Select MBR (Master Boot record) for disk partition, and click OK.

(7) the disk can be partitioned, formatted, and accessed in Explorer, just like the local hard disk.

(8) G disk is a partition created on the iSCSI hard disk.

(9) partitioning an iSCSI hard disk is like a local hard drive.

4. Delete iSCSI network storage

The above steps can be deleted step by step!
