Shulou(Shulou.com)06/03 Report--
At this stage, there are different opinions on cloud computing or cloud hosting. Many companies are loosely using these terms to discuss VPS or cloud servers (public or private). But what do these terms mean? When you look at the price list, you are sure to see differences, so knowing the content of each service will help you determine what is best for you or your company.
To help you or your company, here are some of the pros and cons listed below.
Virtual private server
Also known as VPS,VIRTUAL dedicated server, VDS
Definition: a physical server, divided into several smaller server slices, each serving as its own virtual server environment.
Advantages:
It is usually cheaper than a cloud server.
No file or data access occurs between VPS clients on a shared server, they are separate.
If necessary, you can restart a VPS without affecting other VPS on the shared server.
Disadvantages:
They do not provide high availability, and if the physical server fails, all VPS on that server will have a problem.
There may be security problems. If customers on shared servers don't take security seriously and are hacked or infected, your VPS may be adversely affected.
Computing resources are shared among all clients, so if another VPS on the shared server requires a higher load, RAM, bandwidth, and CPU performance are affected.
Only one operating system can be used per physical server.
They are not scalable and the storage is based on physical server restrictions. Once the maximum VPS capacity is reached, you must purchase more space or look at other options. This may take hours or days of downtime to migrate to the new solution.
CVM
Also known as VM,VIRTUAL MACHINE,IAAS
Definition: a cloud server leverages multiple servers connected together in a cluster supported by SAN storage. Customers using cloud platforms will benefit from multiple servers because they will have unlimited storage, maximum bandwidth, managed load balancing, and hardware independence. The basic difference between a public cloud and a private cloud is public, the cluster is multi-tenant, and private is a single client.
Advantages:
Scalable-add server functionality immediately.
Custom infrastructure-clients can include custom network architecture, firewalls, load balancing, and IP deployments.
High availability-if the physical server fails, the cloud server will be migrated to another physical server without interruption.
Burstable Computing Resources-even if the load of another cloud customer increases, you don't have to worry about RAM or CPU power lag.
Completely secure because you almost have your own server. If the client on the shared cloud is hacked or acquired a virus, your CVM will be completely separated without any risk to your data.
Each customer on the cloud can choose their specific operating system.
Unlimited storage based on SAN storage.
Disadvantages:
The price is usually a little higher than that of VPS.
As you can see, cloud servers are a little rare. Moreover, if you are using a shared cloud, the cost will not far exceed that of VPS, and there are many benefits that I hope will help clarify some of the differences between VPS and cloud servers.
