Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

In the early morning of November 28, Beijing time, Nature magazine published a major discovery by Liu Jifeng and Zhang Haotong's research team at the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Relying on Guo Shoujing Telescope (LAMOST), a major national scientific and technological infrastructure developed by China, the research team discovered a constant star black hole LB-1 with the largest mass so far. The black hole, which is 70 times the mass of the sun, far exceeds the upper limit predicted by the theory, subverts people's perception of the formation of constant star black holes, and is expected to promote the innovation of the theory of stellar evolution and black hole formation. The discovery of LB-1, the "king of black holes", fully confirms the powerful spectral acquisition ability of Guo Shoujing Telescope (LAMOST), an important scientific and technological infrastructure in China, and also provides a new way to make use of the advantages of LAMOST in sky survey to find black holes. LAMOST, which passed national acceptance in June 2009, has 4000 optical fibers, each of which is like an eye and can keep a close eye on a celestial body during observation. As a result, LAMOST can observe nearly 4000 celestial bodies at a time. In March 2019, LAMOST DR6 publicly released 11.25 million spectra, which became the first spectral survey project in the world. LAMOST was praised by astronomers as the "spectral king" with the highest spectral acquisition rate in the world. Since November 2016, in order to discover and study spectral binaries, researchers have used LAMOST to observe more than 3000 stars in one Kepler region for two years, with a cumulative exposure time of about 40 hours. If you use an ordinary four-meter telescope to find such a black hole (365 days a year, 8 hours a day), with the same probability, it will take 40 years! LAMOST helped astronomers discover the king of the constant star black hole, and the appearance of the "king of the black hole" also added more excitement to the "king of the spectrum" LAMOST-the most massive constant star black hole to date, the first black hole discovered by LAMOST, and its appearance will mark the arrival of a new era of taking advantage of LAMOST survey to search for black holes. LB-1 is a binary system with quiet X-ray radiation, so it is impossible to search for this kind of black hole by conventional X-ray method. For a long time, it has been thought that radial velocity monitoring can detect static black hole binaries, which is confirmed by the discovery of the largest mass black hole to date. Making use of the advantages of LAMOST large-scale sky survey and speed monitoring methods, it is believed that astronomers will discover a number of static and horizontal black holes, thus gradually uncovering more inside information about the "family" of black holes, and taking a key step in the study of the formation, evolution and mass distribution of black holes.
