Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--
VMware collects diagnostic information and may contain support packs from ESXi hosts and vCenter Server. Data collected in the host support package may be considered sensitive. In addition, starting from vSphere 6.5, encrypted information from the ESXi host will be included in the support pack.
1. Run vm-support in a console session on the ESXi/ESX host
Open the console to the ESX or ESXi host
Run vm-support
# vm-support-version
Vm-support v2.0
Generate a compressed log package and store it in a file with a .tgz extension in one of the following locations:
/ var/tmp/
/ var/log/
Current working directory
To export a log package to a shared vmfs data store, use this command:
Vm-support-f-w / vmfs/volumes/DATASTORE_NAME
Note: the-f option is not available in ESXi 5.x, ESXi/ESX 4.1 Update 3 and later.
You can also collect and download the log package to the client and upload the log to the SFTP/FTP site.
2. Transfer vm-support output from ESXi 5.x and 6.0 hosts by stream
Enable access to ESXi Shell through SSH
Run the following command
Ssh root@ESXHostnameOrIPAddressvm-support-s > vm-support-Hostname.tgz
# vm-support-s > / vmfs/volumes/OCS01_SY18_CP05PV2C16/vmsupport.tgz
You can also use the same command to direct the support log package to the desired data storage location (mention the target path). For example:
Ssh root@ESXHostnameOrIPAddress'vm-support-s > / vmfs/volumes/datastorexxx/vm-support-Hostname.tgz'
3. Download vm-support output based on HTTP from ESXi 5.x and 6.0 hosts
Starting with ESXi 5.0, the vm-support command line utility can be invoked through HTTP. This allows content to be downloaded using a Web browser or command-line tool such as wget or curl.
Using any HTTP client, download resources from the following location:
For example, use the wget utility to download resources on Linux or other Posix clients, such as vSphere Management Assistant devices. The zipped log package is generated at the following specified location on the client:
Wget https://10.11.12.13/cgi-bin/vm-support.cgi
After collecting the log package and downloading it to the client, upload the log to the SFTP/FTP site.
