1. Recover corrupted WinXP system files

If WindowsXP's system files are corrupted by viruses or other reasons, we can recover those corrupted files from WindowsXP's installation disk.

Specific method: search for corrupted files on the WindowsXP installation disk. It should be noted that the last character of the file name is replaced by the underscore _. For example, if you want to search for Notepad.exe, you need to use Notepad.ex_ to search.

Once searched, open command-line mode (enter cmd while running), and then enter: the full path of the EXPAND source file, the full path of the target file. For example: EXPANDD:SETUPNOTEPAD.EX_C:WindowsNOTEPAD.EXE. It is important to note that if there are spaces in the path, the path needs to be enclosed in double quotation marks (English quotation marks).

Finding it is of course the best, but sometimes we can't find the files we need when we search on a Windows XP disk. One reason for this is that the file you are looking for is in the CAB file. Because WindowsXP treats CAB as a folder, for WindowsXP systems, just drag the CAB file right and copy it to the appropriate directory.

If you are using another Windows platform, search for the CAB file that contains the target file name. Then open the command line mode and enter: the full path to the CAB file in the EXTRACT/L target location, for example: EXTRACT/LC:WindowsD:I386Driver.cabNotepad.exe. As before, as if there are spaces in the path, you need to enclose the path in double quotation marks.

2. Refuse to group similar taskbars

Although WindowsXP grouping similar taskbar button settings can make your taskbar open fewer windows and keep it clean, it is very inconvenient for jobs that need to open multiple windows of the same kind. If you often use communication software such as QQ to chat with people online, if you have more than two friends talking to you at the same time, you will immediately feel the inconvenience caused by the default setting of XP. Every time you want to switch objects to talk to, you have to click on the group first, and then select the friends you want to talk to in the pop-up menu, and each friend in the group shows the same icon, when there are many people to talk to. You may have to click one by one to see who just replied, waiting for you to respond, and choose the wrong one, and you have to start with the group, which is troublesome. Obviously, it's better to open a few windows and start chatting with one click in each small window in the taskbar. Change method: click the start control panel appearance and theme taskbar and the start menu, and remove the hook in front of the grouping similar taskbar button option in the pop-up window.

3. Uninstall useless dynamic links through the registry

Resource managers often leave useless dynamic links in memory. To eliminate this, you can open the registry editor and set the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MacHINESOFTWAREmicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionEXPlorerAlwaysUnloadDLL=Dword:1

Set it to 0 and this feature will be turned off. Note: in order for the settings to take effect, you need to restart your computer.

4. Clear the pre-read files in the prefetch folder

When WinXP is used for a period of time, the files in the pre-read folder will become very large and there will be dead-chain files in it, which will slow down the system time. Recommendation: delete these files regularly. (Windowsprefetch)

5. WindowsXP diet

Delete the driver backup: the Driver.cab file (73MB) in the WindowsDrivercachei386 directory, but in the future we must insert the Windows installation CD every time we install new hardware.

Delete backup of system files (rarely used): run command line sfc/purgecache

Delete the alternate dll file: you can do this as long as you have copied the installation file or have an installation CD. Files under Windowssystem32dllcache (minus 200--300mb).

6. Know the startup time of WinXP

Although we are satisfied with the startup speed of WindowsXP, Microsoft still provides us with a gadget to understand the specific startup time consumed when WindowsXP starts, as well as to view cpu usage, DiskI/O, and so on, which is clear at a glance because it is displayed graphically. 7. Restore the association of EXE files

EXE file association error is very troublesome, because the emergence of this situation is mostly caused by viruses, and the main files of antivirus software are EXE files, since EXE file association errors, how can you run antivirus software? Fortunately, XP provides command-line tools in safe mode for us to use, and command-line tools can be used to solve this problem.

Enter: assoc space .exe = exefile enter in safe mode, and .exe = exefile will appear on the screen. Now close the command prompt window, press the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination to bring up the Windows security window, press the shutdown button and select the restart option. After starting Windows in normal mode, all EXE files can run normally!

8. Let WinXP update automatically

When Windows has an update, the automatic update system will prompt you to upgrade the Windows, of course, this feature will not have a real effect until you go online. One thing is certain, in order to achieve automatic update, the system must collect the user's computer information, and then send it to Microsoft site, through feedback to decide whether to upgrade or not. This setting is also in the system properties window

Port, switch to the automatic updates tab, you can see that there are three options here, choose the last one to turn off automatic updates, so that the system will not often prompt you to update automatically, if you do not use the genuine

WindowsXP operating system, it is recommended that you turn off this feature, because it may let you upgrade the system to WindowsXPSP2 version without knowing it, which will cause system instability.

9. Install IIS in the Home version

As you know, IIS or PWS cannot be installed in WindowsXPHome. According to the general method, you can only upgrade to XPProfessional or use Windows2000, but you can install IIS on WindowsXPHome with a little effort.

First of all, type c:\ Windows\ inf\ sysoc.inf in the start menu, and the system will automatically open the sysoc.inf file using notepad. Find the paragraph [Components] in sysoc.inf, and continue to find a line similar to iis=iis.dll,OcEntry,iis.inf,hide,7, replacing this line with iis=iis2.dll,OcEntry,iis2.inf,7. Then save and close.

Insert the Windows2000Professional CD into the CD drive and press the Shift key to disable the automatic operation of the CD drive. Enter CMD during the run and enter, open the command line mode, enter the following two commands at the command line, and enter at the end of each line of command (assuming that the CD-ROM drive is a D drive):

EXPandd:\ i386\ iis.dl_c:\ Windows\ system32\ setup\ iis2.dll

EXPandd:\ i386\ iis.in_c:\ Windows\ inf\ iis2.inf

At this point, open your control panel and click the add remove programs icon, then click add remove Windows components.

Look carefully, the operating system shown in the start menu is WindowsXPHome, but after modification, you already have the option to add IIS.

Then you can add the IIS as you would in WindowsXPProfessional or Windows2000, and in this case we only installed the WWW service. The system will start copying files, which will take some time. And for this reason, please keep the Windows2000Professional disc in the CD-ROM drive.

After the installation, you can open the Control Panel performance and options Management tool, where Internet Information Services Management is already available.

If you want to verify that IIS is working properly, just open IE, type http://localhost in the address bar and enter enter. If you can see the interface in figure 3, then your IIS is all working.

One last thing to note: if you need to insert WindowWhistlerCD or provide exch_adsiisex.dll during installation, it is because you installed IIS according to the default option. To solve this problem, just click on the details when installing IIS, and then deselect SMTP (that is, do not install the SMTP server), and you will not need those two files when copying files.

If after you install to the location in figure 1, you find that the installation project of Internet Information Services (IIS) has been shown, but they cannot be selected at all, it is probably because the iis.dl_ and iis.in_ you are using are taken out of WindowsXPProfessional, as long as you replace them with Windows2000Professional, you can continue to install normally.
