No matter what kind of service, backup is a very important part of the enterprise, of course, vSphere virtualization is no exception.

VSphrer Data Protection, referred to as VDP, is a disk-based backup and recovery launched by VMware and EMC through technical collaboration, which is reliable and easy to deploy, replacing the previous VDR and VCB. Fully integrated with VCenter Server, it can be used to perform efficient centralized management of backup jobs while storing backups on deduplicated target storage.

There are two versions of VDP:

Normal VDP: supports up to 100 virtual machines and 2TB storage space

VDP Advanced: supports up to 400 virtual machines and 8TB storage space, and also supports application-level replication (Note: VDP Advanced requires a license to use)

OVF template is an open, common, secure virtual machine compression format, usually using templates with .ova extension, but there is no difference between the two. OVF templates can be operated on multiple major virtualization platforms.

The installation of VDP is long, so you need to be patient.

Case environment:

Prepare before deploying VDP:

VDP backups using OVF templates require time synchronization, so you need to configure a time server.

Modify the registry on the 2008DC computer (NTP server).

Modify hkey_local_machine\ system\ currentCnotrolSet\ services\ w32time\ parameters and change the value of type to NTP

Modify hkey_local_machine\ system\ currentCnotrolSet\ services\ w32time\ config to change the announceFlags value to 5

Modify hkey_local_machine\ system\ currentCnotrolSet\ services\ w32time\ TimeProviders\ NtpServer to change the Enabled value to 1

Restart the windows time service

Configuration of Esxi host

Start the command line of the exsi host

Use Alt+F1 to switch to the character terminal and use vi / etc/ntp.conf to modify the file, add a line of tos maxdist 30 to modify the file permission Chmod + w / etc/likewise/lsassd.conf to modify the file vi / etc/likewise/lsassd.conf to find the sync-system-time=no line and remove the #. Execute the file / sbin/auto-backup.sh / etc/init.d/lsassd restart/etc/init.d/ntpd restart on the vcenter service, log in to web client again to see if the time is synchronized with the ntp server.

After time synchronization, you can begin to deploy:

You need to add the parsing information of the VDP server to the DNS:

Permissions need to be added to the domain administrator:

Deploy the OVF template for VDP:

Waiting for deployment to be completed.

Note: VDP needs quad-core CPU support, otherwise it won't power on.

Start the VDP virtual machine, the client browser opens https://192.168.10.22:8543/vdp-configure to enter the VDP configuration interface, VDP virtual machine boot restart can be slow, be patient!

Log in to the vdp configuration side again:

Log out of vCenter and log in again:

Start backup:
