Internet of things Transmission equipment based on NB-IoT Network Architecture

NB-IoT, as a new star in the Internet of things industry, has a very rapid development, and in daily use, NB-IoT does play this important role. With the official commercial use of NB-IoT, many NB-IoT Internet of things transmission devices are developing rapidly. As an industry standard of Internet of things with low power consumption and wide coverage, the industry's attention and discussion on it is also increasing day by day.

The NB-IoT Internet of things transmission terminal has the following characteristics:

The first feature is that wide coverage will provide improved indoor coverage. In the same frequency band, devices using NB-IoT have a gain 20dB over existing networks, which is equivalent to a 100x increase in coverage area.

NB-IoT enhances the gain of 20dB than LTE and GPRS base stations, and is expected to cover underground garages, basements, underground pipelines and other places where the signal is difficult to reach. According to the simulation test data, in the independent deployment mode, the coverage capacity of NB-IoT can reach 164dB, while in-band deployment and protection band deployment need to be simulated and tested.

The second feature is the ability to support a large number of connections. NB-IoT can support tens of thousands of connections in one sector, low latency sensitivity, ultra-low device cost, low device power consumption and optimized network architecture. For example, due to the limitation of bandwidth, operators only open 8-16 access ports to each router in a home, while a family often has multiple mobile phones, laptops, and tablets. In the future, it will be a thorny problem that hundreds of sensing devices need to be connected to the Internet in order to achieve house-wide intelligence. NB-IoT is enough to easily meet the networking needs of a large number of devices in smart homes in the future.

The third feature is low power consumption, especially for some devices and occasions where batteries can not be changed frequently, such as NB-IoT transmission equipment located in remote areas in high mountains and wilderness, they cannot be charged once a day like smartphones, and battery life up to several years is the most essential requirement. NB-IoT focuses on small data volume and low-speed applications, so the power consumption of NB-IoT devices can be very small, and the battery life of the device can be greatly increased from the past few months to several years.

The fourth feature is the lower module cost, and the enterprise expects a single connected module to be no more than $5.

Detailed explanation of NB-IoT Network Architecture

The end-to-end system architecture of NB-IoT is shown in the following figure.

1) NB-IoT terminal: connect to the base station through an empty port.

2) eNodeB: mainly responsible for air access processing, community management and other related functions, and connects with the IoT core network through the S1-lite interface, and forwards the non-access layer data to the high-level network element for processing. It should be noted here that NB-IoT can be networked independently or converged with EUTRAN (as mentioned when talking about duplex mode, NB can only support FDD, so it must be converged with FDD)

3) IoT core network: undertake the function of interacting with the non-access layer of the terminal, and forward the data related to IoT services to the IoT platform for processing. By the same token, NB can set up a network independently or share a core network with LTE.

4) IoT platform: the IoT data obtained from various access networks are aggregated and forwarded to the corresponding business applications for processing according to different types.

5) Application server: it is the final convergence point of IoT data, and carries out data processing and other operations according to the needs of customers.
