Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--

Today, I will talk to you about how to analyze various network devices in OVS. Many people may not know much about it. In order to let you know more, Xiaobian summarizes the following contents for you. I hope you can gain something according to this article.

View the current state of the network and describe the various network devices involved in Open vSwitch

initial network state

Check the current network status.

control node

The output will be explained in more detail later.

computing node

There are also br-int and br-tun on compute nodes, but no br-ext.

This makes sense because traffic destined for the external network is forwarded through virtual routers on network nodes, so br-ext is placed only on network nodes (devstack-controllers).

Learn about various network devices in an Open vSwitch environment

In an Open vSwitch environment, a packet sent from an instance to a physical NIC roughly passes through the following types of devices:

Tap interface named tapXXXX.

The linux bridge is named qbrXXXX.

veth pair named qvbXXXX, qvoXXXX.

The OVS integration bridge is named br-int.

OVS patch ports are named int-br-ethX and phy-br-ethX (X is the serial number of the interface).

The OVS provider bridge is named br-ethX (X is the serial number of the interface).

The physical interface is named ethX (X is the serial number of the interface).

OVS tunnel bridge named br-tun.

The OVS provider bridge is used on flat and vlan networks; the OVS tunnel bridge is used on vxlan and gre networks. These devices will be discussed in detail later with examples.

Open vSwitch supports all five network types: local, flat, vlan, vxlan and gre.

vxlan and gre are very similar, so we'll learn more about how Open vSwitch implements local, flat, vlan and vlxan.

After reading the above, do you have any further understanding of how to analyze the various network devices in OVS? If you still want to know more knowledge or related content, please pay attention to the industry information channel, thank you for your support.
