Disk Management under Windows (1)
VI. Cross roll
A spanned volume is a logical volume made up of several unallocated spaces located on different disks. That is, users can combine unallocated space within several disks into a single spanned volume and allocate a common drive, which may make more efficient use of space.
Users can select 2-32 disks;
The capacity of each disk can be different;
System volumes and active volumes cannot be included;
When the system stores data, it stores the data in the first disk of its members first, and when its space is exhausted, it will use the second disk, and so on;
Spanning volumes does not improve disk access efficiency;
Spanned volumes do not have fault-tolerant capabilities, that is, when a disk fails, the data in the entire volume will be lost;
Spanned volumes cannot be members of mirror, striped, or RAID 5 volumes;
Only volumes formatted as NTFS have the ability to expand volumes;
The entire spanning volume is considered as one, and users cannot use any of its members independently unless the entire span is deleted first.
1. Create a cross-section volume
As shown in the figure below, in the empty space of disk 1 in the figure below, create a spanning volume.
(Since a spanned volume requires at least two disks, an additional disk of 12 gigabytes is added to the virtual machine before the operation)
Select the disks that make up the spanned volume
(As you can see in the figure below, the Next button cannot be activated if the member has only one disk.)
Add a second disk (each disk can define the size of the component volume, that is, the size can be different), the size of a disk is 5205M, and the size of a disk is 6000 MB.
Assign drive letters.
Format.
The results are shown below. (As can be seen from the figure, the system distinguishes different types of volumes by different colors)
2. Expansion Volume
When you expand a volume, you can expand it on one disk or on multiple disks (members).
The spanned volume created by three disks in the figure below (5000, 6000, and 7000MB for the three disks, respectively)
As shown in the figure below, when the format is FAT32, the expansion volume and compression volume operations are not supported.
When formatted as NTFS, you can expand for different members when you choose to expand a volume.
It expands 1, 2 and 3G space in turn.
3. Compressed volume
4. Delete the volume
When a spanning volume is deleted, all the constituent spaces of the original volume will become unpartitioned space.
VII. Strip volume
A striped volume is also a logical volume made up of unallocated space on different disks.
Each member of the volume has the same size of capacity.
2. Volume members, which cannot include system volumes and active volumes;
3. When the system stores data to a striped volume, the data will be divided into 64KB striped volumes. For example, a striped volume consists of 3 disks. The system will split the data into 3 groups of 64KB each. Each group of data will be written to 3 members at a time until all the data is written to the disks. In this way, the efficiency of writing is improved;
4. Striped volumes do not have fault tolerance. That is, if a disk fails, the data of the entire striped volume will be lost;
5. Cannot expand the established stripe volume unless it is deleted and rebuilt;
6. Striped volumes can be composed of 2-32 disks with unallocated space. Note that there must be at least two disks within which to select unallocated partitions (multiple unallocated spaces can be selected within a disk, but the total space must be the same size as the other disks). These disks should preferably be of the same manufacturer and model.
7. The technology of using RAID0 for zone volume;
Striped volumes can be formatted as FAT or NTFS;
9. The entire striped volume is considered as one, and no member can be used independently unless the striped volume is deleted.
1. Create a new ribbon volume
(Assume that the virtual machine adds three disks, the sizes of which are 10, 12, and 14 gigabytes, and all of them have been online and initialized to dynamic disks)
Capacity selection, note that all disks must be the same size. At the same time, the same disk consists of multiple unallocated spaces.
After completion, right-click on the unexpanded or compressed volume, i.e., after the striped volume is established, the expansion or compression operation cannot be performed.
2. Delete the volume
When a volume is deleted, the component space of the original volume becomes unallocated space.
