Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
Editor to share with you how to install and upgrade Fedora 11, I believe most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, let's go to know it!
The Fedora system has a lot to learn. Here we mainly introduce the installation and upgrade of Fedora 11, including the installation and upgrade steps. The support for a specific computing environment makes each operating system have its own workplace, which is the system's support for a specific computing environment.
It wasn't long before Fedora 11 was installed and upgraded from the hard drive (Vista system environment), and the official version of Fedora 12 came out. Do not want to go to vista to download Fedora 12 dvd version of the iso file and then install the old way!
Upgrade using preupgrade
The official installation and upgrade procedure (Upgrading Your System) for Fedora 11 is to install preupgrade through yum using a root account, and then run preupgrade to upgrade.
If your network speed is fast enough and the partition of var is large enough, this should be the easiest way to do this, as follows:
# su
# yum install preupgrade
# preupgrade
Then there will be a graphical prompt, wait for the download, restart when the download is complete, and then start the Fedora 11 installation and upgrade. no, no, no. I did not finish the installation due to insufficient disk space (var partition) during the installation.
Modify menu.lst to add boot information upgrade
This requires downloading Fedora-12-i386-DVD.iso, and then extracting the images and isolinux folders from it.
Create a directory fc12 (/ home/fc12/) in the home partition and put the newly extracted images directory, the isolinux directory, along with Fedora-12-i386-DVD.iso, under the fc12 directory.
Then create a directory updata (/ boot/updata) under the boot partition.
Then copy the initrd.img and vmlinuz under isolinux to the fc12 directory and the updata directory you just created.
Then add the boot information to the menu.lst.
# su
# gedit / boot/grub/menu.lst
Find one of the title and add the following bootstrap information on the line above title:
Title Fedora (updata)
Root (hd0,1)
Kernel / updata/vmlinuz
Initrd / updata/initrd.img
Save exit.
Then select manage-> logical Volume Management from the system menu at the top to see why the disk instance of the home partition (such as my / dev/sda5). Make a note of the "instance" name. After reboot, select Fedora (updata) when the startup menu appears, and then boot into installation mode. Prompt language, keyboard type, and then select the img directory, you need to pay attention to here. Select the disk partition (such as my / dev/sda5) directory path: / fc12/ enter or select ok, you can start to enter the "Fedora 11 installation upgrade" and "upgrade the existing Linux system", according to their own actual situation, I will not say. If you choose to reinstall, you need to reconfigure the partition so that some partitions are not mounted and some potentially important data is lost.
PS: this method is inspired by booting installation from preupgrade. If you use the default disk partition, you will use LVM (Logic Volume Management, logical Volume Management) to manage mount points other than boot partitions.
Attached:
LVM (Logic Volume Management, logical volume management) is an advanced disk management tool that comes with traditional commercial Unix. It can directly expand the hard disk partition on the production operating system, reduce the partition size later, and move a partition from one hard disk to another during the operation of the system. Fedora 11 installation and upgrade is like magic. And all of this can be operated directly on a busy system without any impact on the operation of your system, which is very safe.
