Apple of the United States today released a new open source project, FoundationDB Cloud Database, on the GitHub code website. Apple acquired database company FoundationDB in 2015 for use in distributed databases on commercial hardware, supporting NoSQL for full ACID transactions and enhancing services such as iCloud, App Store, iTunes or iMessage.

FoundationDB was founded and developed by Dave Rosenthal, Dave Scherer and Nick Lavezzo in 2009 and was acquired by Apple in 2015. FoundationDB is a distributed database that can store large-scale structured data on multi-cluster servers.
