The rapid development of the Internet industry has prompted the network deployment of most data centers to optical fiber interconnection. in order to improve optical fiber coverage, the network wiring mode of data centers has also changed, gradually replacing the original three-layer cabling by leaf ridge topology cabling. at the same time, the network transmission rate is also gradually upgraded from 10G to 100G.

Introduction of 25g DAC High Speed Cable

The 25G DAC high-speed cable consists of a passive copper core cable and two optical fiber transceiver modules with SFP28-SFP28 interfaces. The transceiver module is similar to an optical module, but there is no laser installed inside. 25g DAC high-speed cable can replace 25G optical module to realize short-distance data transmission. it is an effective solution with high performance-to-price ratio for short-distance application of 25G switch in data center. And the price of 25G DAC high-speed cable has an advantage over 25G optical module, mainly because the DAC high-speed cable does not have a laser, so the price is cheaper than optical module.

Easy sky optical communication 25G optical modules are divided into the following two types:

① 25G SFP28 1310nm 10km LC DDM (25g LR multimode optical module)

② 25G SFP28 850nm 100m LC DDM (25G SR multimode optical module)

The two optical modules adopt multiple standards such as IEEE 802.3, SFF-8472, SFF-8402, SFF-8432 and SFF-8431 as well as LC duplex interface. The difference between the two is that the central wavelength of 25G multimode optical module is 850nm, using VCSEL laser, and the central wavelength of 25G single-mode optical module is 1310nm, using DFB laser.

The difference between the central wavelength and the laser leads to different fiber jumpers and transmission distances used with them. 25g multimode optical module is mainly used with OM3OM4 multimode fiber, the maximum transmission distance is 100m, suitable for short-distance data transmission, 25g single-mode optical module is mainly used with single-mode optical fiber, the maximum transmission distance can reach 10km for long-distance data transmission.

The data transmission technology of 25g optical module can not only improve the network performance of the data center, but also effectively reduce the number of rack-top switches in the data center, which can fully meet the high-speed and high-density requirements of the data center for network deployment. Moreover, under the present situation that the 10G optical module can not meet the rate requirements of most data centers, the price and power consumption of 40G optical module and 100G optical module are too high, while the 25G optical module can just meet the needs of low power consumption and low cost in the data center.
