The control platform in Unreal engine 4 is a scriptable rigging system based on Blueprint that is mainly used to control attributes to drive animation. Unlike Blueprint, however, Control Rig does not rely on the Blueprint virtual machine (VM), but uses its own lightweight VM to translate code (mainly replication and execution). Control Rig uses a graph-based node interface in which you can connect nodes in executable parts of your code (called Rig elements) to implement and drive animations defined by your Rig unit network and attributes.

Importing a bone mesh produces a hierarchy that allows you to use the rig unit to drive and animate the bones in the bone mesh. The hierarchy can be the input or output of the rig unit, similar to the posture of the input or output to the Anim node in the animation blueprint. You can import the hierarchy itself, and you can add, delete, or even rename joints. Control Rig is not limited to skeleton meshes, you can use Blueprint Actor or animated static meshes (such as mobile platforms) by providing and applying Transform properties.

If you are looking for ways to implement process manipulation, animate, or set up redirects or complete IK solutions in your engine, you may want to use Control Rig in your project. Re-targeting and full-body IK can be done without controlling the rig in the engine; however, compared with other methods, Control rig is more integrated, customizable and scriptable, thus providing greater flexibility.

In the editor menu, Edit, select Plugins.

Locate the Animation tab, select the enabled activation plug-in Control Rig, and then click restart now in the lower right corner to restart the editor

Click the Add New button, select the Animation tab, and there are two more Control Rig Blueprints and Control Rig Sequences.
