Aoteng is not only an important part of Intel's data-centric strategy and product layout, but also a major technological breakthrough in the storage field for more than 20 years. Its product has caused widespread concern in the market since it was officially launched last year. As a brand-new storage device, Aoteng has the advantages of low latency, high stability and high durability, and is bound to play a new role in the future-oriented data storage strategy.
A few days ago, the author had the honor to go to Intel Shanghai Zizhu R & D Center to participate in the Aoteng technology sharing meeting and Aoteng product evaluation activities, really close contact with Intel Aoteng technology. On the same day, Liu Gang, general manager of Intel's non-volatile storage business in China, and several technical experts attended the event and made a sharing and explanation.

New generation of storage, a new way
Intel data center-class Aspire products are divided into two categories: one is Aoton persistent memory, and the other is Aoteng solid State disk (SSD). Friends who don't know about arrogant technology must be wondering why it can do both memory and SSD. The reason is simple: on the one hand, its latency is very close to memory; on the other hand, it is larger than memory, equivalent to SSD, and is non-volatile-which is why Aoten memory is called persistent memory.
According to Intel technical experts, the latency of DDR memory is generally 10 nanoseconds, while NAND SSD is generally 100 microseconds. As a brand-new medium, the arrogant delay is between the two. The latency of Aoton persistent memory is less than 100ns, which is only about 10 times that of DDR memory, while the latency of Aoteng SSD is less than 10 microseconds, which is about 1/10 of that of ordinary NAND SSD.

For Aoton persistent memory, although there is still a certain gap in performance compared with DDR memory, it has absolute advantages in capacity and durability, and the cost is lower than DDR memory. Today, when the servers of many enterprises are unable to expand their memory, they choose to expand with arrogance. There are usually two ways: one is to use Aoton persistent memory, and the other is to use the arrogant solid state disk DC P4800X to simulate some of the new memory through IMDT (Intel memory driver Suite) software.
As for arrogant SSD, as we said before, its performance is much higher than that of NAND SSD in all aspects. In the sharing, Mr. Liu Gang showed us the average read latency test curve of Intel Aoteng SSD DC P4800X and Intel SSD DC P4600 under different random write workload pressures. with the increasing pressure, the latency of P4600 began to increase and remained unstable, while the latency of P4800X remained at the same level. Initially, the performance of the P4800X was only about eight times that of the P4600, but as the pressure increased, the gap widened to 63 times. It can be seen that the performance and stability of Aoteng SSD is far better than that of NAND SSD.

Secondly, Aoteng SSD also has higher durability. Tests show that the driver write per day (DWPD) of the P4600 is 3, while the DWPD of the P4800X is up to 60, 20 times that of the former. When used as a cache device, the required arrogant SSD capacity is also much lower than that of the NAND SSD, achieving higher efficiency. Although at present, the cost of Aoton SSD is higher than that of NAND SSD, using Aoton SSD may be more economical in terms of efficiency and total cost of ownership.

Based on the advantages of Aoteng products, Intel proposed an innovative storage portfolio, namely Aoteng SSD+QLC 3D NAND SSD, to help enterprises cope with the performance and capacity challenges of warm and hot data storage in the data torrent. Needless to say, the performance advantages of arrogant SSDs are worth mentioning that the latest Intel QLC technology now stores more bits of data per memory unit than the previous generation of processors (64-layer 3D NAND). Intel QLC 3D NAND Media products currently have the highest area density in the industry, continuing to maintain this market leading position.

As mass storage, when you need to store 1PB data, you only need 32 QLC SSD drives (each capacity is 32TB) to replace 256HDD drives (each capacity is 4TB). This will greatly save space, cooling, energy consumption and other aspects, and reduce operating costs. In terms of performance and cost, it is a good choice to use QLC SSD as mass storage to store temperature data.
By using Aoton SSD as cache layer and QLC 3D NAND SSD as storage layer, compared with all TLC NAND SSD, it can not only improve performance, bring higher IOPS and lower latency, but also achieve high-density, high-capacity storage and save data center operating costs. This innovative storage combination is an excellent choice for enterprises with big data application load, which can not only meet the storage performance and reliability requirements of data-intensive application load, but also provide a better platform for temperature data storage.
Finally, as a data-centric company, Intel has always been a global leader in technology and products.
