Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
When installing Exchange Server, the system will automatically generate a default database, such as Mailbox Database 0528756723, a mailbox with a ten-digit code, which looks quite unfriendly and hard to remember, and has a great impact on some interface operations or command line operations of our Exchange administrators later. In order to facilitate future management and maintenance, and to facilitate us to make a good and comprehensive classification of databases, we usually delete this default database and re-create a new mailbox database that is friendly, concise and easy to distinguish. Of course, it can be one or more, depending on your own plan. Can we simply delete the default and create a new mailbox database? The answer is no.
In this default mailbox database, there are some very important functional Exchange native mailboxes, including system mailboxes, migration mailboxes, and federated mailboxes, all of which act as mailbox media for some Exchange special functions. At this time, many people will ask, then why can't I see these mailboxes in the Exchange ECP Management console? The answer is that these feature mailboxes are hidden and can only be seen by running special commands from the Exchange PowerShell command line.
In order to use these functions normally in the future, we must retain their existence. That is, before we delete the default mailbox database, we need to move them to a secure location before deleting the default database. So the main purpose of this article is to introduce how to move hidden mailboxes and delete the default mailbox database.
The order of our operation today is as follows:
1. Create a new mailbox database
two。 Find all available mailboxes in the native database
3. Move all available mailboxes, including quorum mailboxes, to the new database
4. Delete the original mailbox database
Next, let's do it in the field.
1. Open Exchange PowerShell command line mode and use the command get-mailbox to find all mailboxes in the native database
two。 Use the command Get-mailbox-Arbitration to find all hidden arbitration mailboxes
3. Use the command Get-Mailbox discovery* | New-MoveRequest-TargetDatabase "maildb01" to move the mailbox from the default database to the new target database.
BTW: you can also use the New-MoveRequest-Identity 'tony@contoso.com'-TargetDatabase "maildb01" command to move individual mailboxes.
4. Use the command Get-Mailbox-Arbitration | New-MoveRequest-TargetDatabase "Mailbox Database 1" to move all quorum mailboxes to the new mailbox database.
BTW: you can use Get-MoveRequest to view the status of mailbox movements.
Get-Moverequest | Remove-MoveRequest
5. Once the above steps are completed and all mailboxes have been moved from the default database to the new database, we can delete the previous default database
On the Exchange ECP console, delete the default mailbox directly, and the system will have a default prompt, click "OK" or "Yes".
6. When deleting the database, the system will also remind users to manually delete the database edb file under the database storage path, and we can also manually delete the log file of the database to free up disk space.
