Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

I would like to share with you what kind of local area network there is in the computer network. I believe most people don't know much about it, so I hope I can share this article for your reference. I hope you will learn a lot after reading this article. Let's learn about it together.

Local area network includes: 1, Ethernet, Ethernet is the most widely used LAN; 2, FDDI network, it is a LAN technology developed in the mid-1980s; 3, token ring network, which was developed by IBM in the 1970s; 4, ATM network, its development began in the late 1970s; 5, wireless LAN and so on.

A local area network is naturally a regional network formed in a local area, which is characterized by a limited distribution area, ranging from large to small, as large as the connection between a building and adjacent buildings, and as small as the connection between offices.

The types of Lans are:

1. Ethernet. Ethernet was first founded by Xerox and was jointly developed as a standard by DEC, Intel and Xerox in 1980. Ethernet is the most widely used local area network, including standard Ethernet (10Mbps), Fast Ethernet (100Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps) and 10G Ethernet, all of which conform to the IEEE802.3 series of standards and specifications.

2. FDDI net.

The full name of FDDI in English is "Fiber Distributed Data Interface" and the Chinese name is "Optical Fiber distributed data Interface". It is a local area network technology developed in the mid-1980s, which provides higher high-speed data communication capability than Ethernet (10Mbps) and token network (4 or 16Mbps) at that time. The FDDI standard, formulated by the ANSI X3T9.5 Standards Committee, provides an access method for high-capacity input and output on busy networks. FDDI technology is similar to IBM's Tokenring technology, and has management, control and reliability measures that LAN and Tokenring lack. FDDI supports multimode fiber up to 2KM.

3. Token ring network.

Token ring network was developed by IBM in the 1970s, but now this kind of network is relatively rare. In the old token ring network, the data transmission speed is 4Mbps or 16Mbps, and the new fast token ring network speed can reach 100Mbps. The transmission method of token ring network adopts star topology physically, but it is still ring topology logically.

4. ATM net. The full name of ATM is "asynchronous transfer mode" in English and "Asynchronous transfer Mode" in Chinese. Its development began in the late 1970s. ATM is a relatively new unit switching technology. Unlike Ethernet, token Ring and FDDI networks, which use variable length packet technology, ATM uses 53-byte fixed-length cells for switching.

5. Wireless local area network.

Wireless LAN is the latest and most popular local area network, especially since Intel launched the first Centrino notebook processor with its own wireless network module. The main difference between the wireless local area network and the traditional local area network is that the transmission medium is different, the traditional local area network is connected through the tangible transmission medium, such as shaft cable, twisted pair, optical fiber and so on. The wireless local area network uses air as the transmission medium. Because it gets rid of the shackles of physical transmission media, the most important feature of this kind of local area network is freedom, as long as it can connect with servers and other workstations anywhere within the coverage of the network, without the need to re-lay the cable.
