Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
Not long ago, MediaTek launched its latest smartphone flagship SoC Tianji 9000. The new chipset has not yet found its way in any smartphones on the market. At the same time, the company seems to have made significant progress as its successors develop.
According to Equal Leaks on Telegram, MediaTek's next-generation flagship SoC will be based on 3nm process nodes. Considering that all current flagship chipsets, including Dimensity 9000, use 4nm architecture, this is the expected generational upgrade.
It is reported that chip giant TSMC will produce the upcoming MediaTek chipset. Compared with the previous generation of SoC, that is, SoC based on 5nm process, the logic density of TSMC 3nm chipset will be increased by 1.7 times, and the performance will be improved by 11%. Power consumption will also be reduced by 25% to 30%.
As the name implies, MediaTek's next flagship SoC is expected to be called Tianji 10000. The company already has Tianji 8000 and Tianji 9000 in its lineup, so Tianji 10000 seems to be a logical brand. Things should become clearer in the coming months. MediaTek hopes to release the new processor by the end of this year.
MediaTek Tianji 10000 will compete with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
In recent years, the chip war between MediaTek and Qualcomm has become increasingly fierce. The former overthrew the American mogul in 2020 to become the world's largest smartphone chip maker. But the latter still has the upper hand in the flagship market, which is considered the most critical market.
However, MediaTek's current flagship product, the Tianji 9000, is likely to give value for money to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 this year. These two SoC look as good as the other one on paper. The era of Tianji 10000 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has come, and MediaTek may also stand out. This is based on early reports that Qualcomm's next-generation flagship SoC will be based on TSMC's 4nm process.
However, if TSMC's 3nm technology can be mass-produced by the end of this year, Qualcomm has no reason to stick to its current 4nm node. It is said that the company will invest about $44 billion this year to expand its chip business. As a result, the next generation of chip manufacturing technology is likely to be put into production in December 2022.
