Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional data protection measure, which means that additional steps are required to perform the regular login process. Unlike a single factor, where authentication requires users to enter passwords and log in (what they know) to access data, 2FA may need to enter one-time passwords that are received on personal mobile devices (what the user owns), and dual authentication solutions enable enterprises to better protect data from unauthorized access. Although the range of features and characteristics of each tool may vary from vendor to vendor.
