This article will explain in detail the relationship between Windows 7 system services and running speed. The content of the article is of high quality, so the editor will share it with you for reference. I hope you will have some understanding of the relevant knowledge after reading this article.

When XP, which accompanied us for a long time, got out of our computer, we ushered in Windows 7. When we use Windows 7, we all want our computers to be faster, whether it's the boot speed or the running speed of the software. After the hardware does not become a bottleneck, we can indeed speed up the system by means of software. Recently, there are widespread rumors on the Internet that shutting down the system service can speed up the startup and operation of the Windows 7 system. Is that true? Next, let's actually test it.

I. the theoretical relationship between service and start-up speed

Service is some programs automatically loaded by the system. Compared with the programs started by the user, it does not appear program windows or dialog boxes, but silently provides background support for the operation of other programs. Only the process that we can not easily identify will be displayed under the task manager.

Several ways to start the service

Press the "Win + R" combination function key to bring up the "run" dialog box, enter "services.msc" and press enter key, and the service management window will appear. Double-click one of the services to view its current status, startup type and other information, and you can also modify the current state here. The startup types of services are "automatic", "automatic (delayed startup)", "manual", "disabled" and so on.

In the automatic mode, the service will run automatically with the start of the system, this kind of service plays a vital role in the normal operation of the system, and it is reasonable to set this kind of service to delayed self-start. With regard to manually started services, there are two ways to start. One is the real manual, such as the "Application Identit" service, which can only be run by manually turning on AppLocker (application control policy, one of the new features of Windows 7).

Theoretical relationship between service and system running speed

Service is also a special program, its operation is bound to take up a certain amount of CPU, memory and other resources. From the previous analysis, the startup type is manual service, whether it runs or not is entirely decided by the user, even if it takes up system resources, it has to endure.

For services that start automatically or delayed, selectively disabling them does speed up the startup of the system, and we will test whether it can speed up the system.

Second, which services can be turned off, and can the shutdown speed up the boot?

When Microsoft designed Windows 7, the self-starting services were aimed at most users, but in practical applications, not all users need these services. To this end, we will selectively shut down some services-- only those that start automatically or delayed.

After shutting down the services in the above table, after 10 tests, my computer startup time (pressing the power switch to the desktop appears) is about 36 seconds, compared with 47 seconds before shutting down, which really speeds up the system startup speed. Of course, the actual configuration of everyone's computer is different, so this data is for reference only.

* it is important to remind you that there is a risk in modifying the startup status of the service. Be sure to see the "description" information and "dependencies" of the service when you modify it. In addition, click Action → Export list in the window of service settings before you modify it. Next, select the save type as text file (comma separated) (* .CSV), and then enter the file name and save location to save the current state of the service as a CSV file. The file can be opened through EXCEL. If there is a problem caused by changes to the service, please restore the original state of the service.

Third, the simulation test of service and system running speed

The startup of a service will certainly take up a certain amount of CPU and memory resources, and the specific amount can only be tested after the system is fully started. To do this, we will simulate it. Let's take the service Base Filtering Engine (BFE) as an example to illustrate its approach.

Step 1: find and double-click the BFE service (already started) in the service item, and query it under the "General" tab of the pop-up dialog box. The "path to the executable file" is "C:Windowssystem32svchost.exe-k LocalServiceNoNetwork", which is the corresponding process of the BFE service.

Step 2: press the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" combination function key to call up the task manager, click "View → selection column", and check the "command line" under it, so that the task manager can display the process of the service through the executable path of the service. In this case, "C:Windowssystem32svchost.exe-k Local-"

"ServiceNoNetwork" means that the CPU occupancy rate of the BFE service is 0%, and the memory usage is 5528KB. Obviously, the resource usage is very small when BFE has been started.

Step 3: manually stop the BFE service, and then enable it, you can see in the task manager that the CPU occupancy rate of the BFE corresponding process is 12%, and the memory footprint is about 8590KB.

Similarly, you can check the CPU and memory resource usage of other services, and the results are similar. To this end, it is not difficult to draw a conclusion:

1. When the process is enabled, the CPU usage is very low, almost zero. However, in the process of enabling, it takes up a lot of CPU and memory. Obviously, the automatically enabled service will certainly slow down the startup speed of the system, but it will have a great impact on the running speed of the system.

two。 The manually enabled services are almost not enabled in parallel at the same time, which will not have much impact on the running speed of the system. Moreover, such services are enabled manually or through the operation of corresponding programs, and they have to be enabled. No matter how much resources are taken up, they have to bear.

3. To speed up the startup of the system, efforts can only be made on disabling self-enabling services.

Services that Windows 7 can shut down

Service name

Base Filtering Engine

Windows Firewall

Microsoft Antimalware Service

Diagnostic Policy Service

Windows Event Log

Group Policy Client

IP Helper

Offline Files

Server

Print Spooler

Shell Hardware Detection

Action

Provide support for the system's own firewall, Defender, etc. Turning them off will not affect the operation of third-party antivirus software and firewalls. But Microsoft's recent antivirus software doesn't work.

Provide problem detection and troubleshooting for faulty Windows components.

Provide support for system logs.

With this service, administrators can provide unified system settings for computers in the domain through Group Policy.

Provide technical support for using IPv6. But at present, IPv6 technology is not popular.

Provide offline support for LAN (please refer to "remarks")

Provide LAN support for PC

Provide printing support

Provides notifications for automatic playback of hardware events.
