KMIP (Key Management Interoperability Protocol) is a communication protocol that defines the message format for manipulating encrypted keys on a secret key management server. Keys may be created, and retrieved on the server, and may be encapsulated by other keys. Symmetric and asymmetric keys and certificate signing are required. KMIP also defines messages used to perform encryption operations on the server, such as encryption and decryption.
