Preparatory work

1. Check the HCL compatibility list and whether the server supports upgrading to vSphere5.5u3.

Prepare before upgrad

1. Back up the vCenter database

two。 Back up the SSL certificate of vCenter (the SSL certificate of vCenter is in the C:\ Program Data\ VMware\ VMware VirtualCenter\ SSL directory. C:\ Program Data defaults to the hidden directory. You need to first select to show all hidden files and folders in the folder display)

Upgrade step

1. Upgrade SSO

Put the prepared vCenter5.5u3 CD into the machine, choose to install vCenter Single Sign-On, he will detect the installed old version of SSO and prompt for upgrade, click next

Enter the site name (note that the site roll call cannot be modified later), and then keep the default option until the installation is finished.

Go back to the main screen and choose to install vSphere Web Client. He will detect the installed old version of vSphere Web Client and prompt for upgrade. Click next.

Keep the default options until you enter the administrator password interface for the set SSO domain, complete the registration of Web Client with SSO, and then keep the default options until the installation is completed.

3. Upgrade vCenter Inventory Service

Go back to the main screen and choose to install vCenter Inventory Service. He will detect the installed old version of vCenter Inventory Service and prompt for upgrade. Click next.

Keep the default option until you choose how to install the database, and because it is an upgrade operation, you choose to keep the existing database here

Enter the FQDN of vCenter Inventory Service, or you can enter the IP address if there is no DNS.

Choose the size of the list according to the period

Enter the SSO administrator password to complete registration with SSO, and then keep the default options until the end of the installation

4. Upgrade vCenter Server

Go back to the main screen and choose to install vCenter Server. He will detect the installed old version of vCenter Server and prompt for upgrade. Click next.

Enter the License authorization code for vCenter5.5

Enter the administrator password for the database server

Prompt: after upgrading vCenter, you need to upgrade update Management to a version compatible with 5.5 (optional).

Upgrade the existing database and make sure that the existing database and SSL certificate have been backed up before upgrading

Choose to automatically update agents on each Esxi host

Choose to use the local system account to start the vCenter Server service. If there is no DNS server FQDN, you can enter the IP address here.

Choose the list size according to the actual situation

Enter the SSO administrator password to complete the registration with SSO and keep the default options until the installation is complete

Since SSO no longer has a database since 5.5.5.After installation, use SQL Management Studio to detach the original SSO database after offline.

5. Upgrade vSphere Client

After the vCenter upgrade is complete, log in to vCenter using vSphere Client, and you will be asked to update vSphere Client, choose to run the installer, and wait for the upgrade to complete. At this point, the vCenter upgrade operation is complete
