How to choose the appropriate method when estimating the amount or size of the software workload? What are the common software project workload estimation methods?

The main methods of software workload estimation are analogy method, analogy method and equation method. In general, the estimation of software workload should be inputted by the result of scale estimation, and then estimated by equation method. However, in some special cases, such as the demand is so vague that the scale can not be estimated, the workload can be estimated directly by analogy and analogy.

Analogy belongs to the method of "calculation". When the project to be evaluated is similar to the completed project in some project properties (such as application domain, system size, complexity, development team experience, etc.), the analogy method can be used to estimate the software project workload. It is based on a large number of historical project sample data to determine the predicted value of the target project.

When using the analogy method, it should be noted that when the number of samples for selection is insufficient, the workload can be adjusted according to the results by selecting a single project attribute for screening and comparison.

When using the equation method to estimate the workload, we should consider the regression analysis according to the actual situation of the development organization and establish the regression equation. All the influence factors can be taken into account to establish a multivariate equation, or the preliminary results can be calculated according to some of the influence factors, and then the results can be adjusted.
