Google released the first beta version of Android Q a week ago, and developers have already discovered some new hidden features in the new operating system. For example, Android Q Beta 1 enables dual-card dual-standby mode on Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 devices. The beta also allows users to remap Active Edge to launch other assistants or trigger other actions. Now the latest discovery shows that Google is testing chat head bubbles on Android Q in the system notification area.

According to 9to 5 Google, which first spotted this, you can enable chat header bubbles for all notifications on beta 1. Of course, this is a hidden feature, which means you have to use a few lines of code to activate it via ADB. When enabled, all notifications appear as chat header bubbles. This is similar to the chat header used by the Facebook Messenger app.

Google already uses a similar feature on its mobile app, offering simple in-call controls. However, the new chat header feature is available system-wide and you can move it or cancel it by dragging it down. All notifications appear as a stack and can be moved around. Tapping one of these notifications will open it and line up all the other bubbles horizontally. It's also similar to how chat heads work on Facebook Messenger.

Below the notification chat header, you will see the app name, app settings, and buttons to open the app in full screen mode. If it's a notification from WhatsApp, Telegram, or another messaging app, you can respond directly and continue the thread. It works similarly to the system we use on Android Pie today. Notifications for systems, screenshots, screenshots, etc. can all be displayed as bubbles.
